Hey guys I know there is a post on here somewhere about it, but I can't find it, I seem to have worked out the training and tactics pretty well, but i don't understand what to do to train a guy in a new position, eg: I want to train Patrick Marleau to play either LW or RW so what should I do?

Thanks

Tim

Well, from my experience the most important factor when training a player on a new position is whether or not they have any abilty at that position in the first place. 8-) You can check this in the Positions menu of the Player profile (left hand menu - 2nd option.) To use your example, Patrick Marleau is listed as a Natural Center but 'Unconvincing' at both RW and LW. Therefore, he's not really a good candidate for the switch. On the other hand, that doesn't mean you can't give it a shot! Just playing him at the new position is all you need to do to train him.

If you find players who are 'Competent' or 'Accomplished' at positions other than their natural one, you'll find they will take up their new role much more quickly.

Hope this helps.

Cheers mate.

Ps. Want a Sharks avatar? :-D

Gaining positional qualifications is a gradual thing, so a player would have to go from 'Unconvincing' to 'Competent' first... then up from there.

In general it take a really long time. You can do it for a year and not notice a difference. The only way to really get it done in any noticable timeframe is to put them on their own training scedule where the ONLY thing they are practicing is learning the new position. For obvious reasons, they will basically suffer in every statistical category while learning in this manner. :dunno:

Other thing to mention: players seems to learn a new position far more quickly if they learn it during the pre-season, and they also learn faster if you make them play at this position during the games!

If you have a center guy and you want him to become let's say a RW, start to teach him how to play RW in the pre-season, and use him as a RW since the first exhibition game, and you'll have the fastest improvements ;)

Also to notice: if a player learned to play at a certain position, but then you make him play only at his natural one, he sometimes loose the ability to play at the position he previously learned.

Hope that helps :)

Thx Shadd666 and Minstrel had been wondering why a player of mine wouldnt rise from his starting position of competant to accomplished, even though he had been training right wing and for the most parts playing r.wing for 3 years :O. Makes alot more sense now, but he has been awsome nontheless so no harm done :).
Btw I assume you cant get a player to change natural position?.

Forsberg: I don't use a lot of position changes, preferring to have the right guy to the right place, so i can't answer you for sure, but i don't think a player can change his natural position. After all, if it's "natural", it means that it has nothing to do with any specific training, but that the player is made for this position ;)

In the same way of thoughts, a player only have one natural position. Maybe he should have two or three natural ones in real life, but i think they can have just one in the game. But heh! remember that the positions stuff at this level of details is a new stuff for EHM07, so don't expect it to be perfect at once ;)
