You can now add your Popomundo character name to your TBL Profile. This will help other users to see who is who in Popomundo.

To add your character name to your profile, go to your Edit User Profile Page on TBL (you can access this by clicking on the Image button at the top right corner of the screen). Then scroll down to the section titled "Profile Information" where you will find a text field labelled "Popomundo Name". Enter your Popomundo character name and then click on the "Submit" button at the bottom of the page.

To find a user's Popomundo character name, access their TBL User Profile Page (e.g. by clicking on the Image button below the user's post). You will find their Popomundo character name at the bottom right corner of their Profile Page. You can click on their name to search for that character on popomundo.com 8-)

Update 18/01/2007: I've added a "Popo" section to the area under everyone's avatar. You'll see that it's replaced the "Location" section. This only applies in the Competitions and Games Forum; in all of the other Forums "Location" is still there.

Since you've added this to the profiles, is there any way this can be added to the info that appears along with the avatars and such next to posts? Seeing this info there will go a long way towards getting folks familiar with who is who.

Bruins72: i firstly thought the same thing about Popo character's name along with the avatar...

But remember that TBL is mainly a EHM site, affiliated to SI, and not a Popo site, so i'm not sure that Popo names should have such a big visibility...:dunno: Remember there's a list of all TBLers in Popoworld in the knowledge base...

By the way, it's at the admins to decide what to do ;)

I totally understand all that. I just figured with the community here at this site also being so active on Popo, it could hurt, especially since they're already adding that to our profiles. The little bit by our avatars includes other bits of info that really don't have anything to do with EHM. Does it really matter to EHM where we are from or how many posts we've made? What about our customer titles in there (Like "TBL's Goodwill Ambassador"?). They're all things that are nice to have but don't have a major relevance to EHM. That's why I *suggested* the Popo names in there. They'd be nice to have. That's all.

I won't speak for Archi here, but it might be cool to have them additionally like our Location area, to have a Popo: section. Not sure if we can pull that off or not so that's just my personal feeling on it aht it would be cool, not saying it will or can be done :nerd: And come to think of it it might be cool to have it be a hack of the email/MSN tags where we could have a Popo tag that would link to your Popo character page and show you chracter name on "mouseover". I think that would be best really because then people not using it wouldn't have a blank spot. Maybe Archi can figure that for us :-D

bruins72: don't worry, i perfectly understand your point of view ;) and understand too that it was just a suggestion :) And as i told you, i thought about the same suggestion. And for sure, our TBL titles or our number of posts isn't EHM related... But at least it's TBL related ;)

I'd like that kind of visibility for Popo, the way you suggested (or the way Minty did), but i'm just wondering the impact on other TBL users... Those who don't care will just don't care, but newcomers may ask themselves what is it, and how serious we are, or things like that... :dunno: But maybe i'm totally wrong on this point... :p

Just wondering, nothing more.

With my code-monkeying we can pull off pretty much anything :D

Indeed it would be very easy to do; just like when I added it to the Profiles, it would take literally one minute to do. I had in fact considered doing that but then I chose not to because we already have enough information down that side. By adding an extra line (it would probably two lines) to the area under the avatar, we would be making that area a bit taller. This in turn would make the minimum height of posts two lines taller - take a look at how much space a post takes up even if it's just a one line post:

The area marked by the red arrows shows how much blank space is generated by having an avatar and all of that other info in the left-hand section. Thus I'd like to keep the info in that area kept to a minimum.

However, I do like Mintrel's suggestion of having an icon along with the MSN/PM tags at the bottom of each post. I might look into that once I've finished a couple of bigger site projects I'm working on.

Not being an EHM or SI thing isn't really something to take into account. Our users enjoy playing that game and so we're happy to branch out the Forums to accommodate our users' needs/suggestions and to maintain the great community we have here. Clearly we're an EHM/SI/hockey site but I'm fine with getting involved with other things so long as it doesn't detract from the main purpose of the site.

Yes friends, Archi is ever concerned about scrolling and the existence of sub forums :-D Two of his pet peeves.

But yeah I think a blue popo link tag is a good way to go so we don't more scrolling action, don't want Archi breaking out in hives. :-p

To add to what he was saying though I always think of TBL as a Community Site. We're all here because we love EHM and that's always going to be our focus but we also like to have other things that help build a community, so like a bar where you come for the drinks you wouldn't go if there was nobody to talk to... so umm yeah. Popo has just become an official diversion and that's cool.

Those are two things that make me break out in a cold sweat! If I had my way, we'd have every single page fit on the screen - even if it means making the text so small that you need a magnifying glass! Thank goodness there's Minty to keep me in line :wtg: :-D

That's pretty neat! I didn't think you could do something like that where it shows one thing in one forum and something different in another. That works out perfectly! It's a great way to find a compromise between including it and not taking up much space. Great work, Archi!

Yeah, that's pretty much the only explanation I can think of. :-D

I've got to ask... What's with the recent surge in creativity here, Archi? What's inspired all these great new changes/additions? Whatever it is, it's a good thing!

It's because I'm no longer working countless hours in the wine shop. Christmas was our busy period and so it was all hands to the pump, so to speak. Now I've got some free time once again and so I'm using some of it to do some improvements to the site that I've been planning to do for ages. I've been wanting to redesign the HoF for about three months! :-D

Good for you! It's always nice when things slow down enough to allow you the time to do some things you want to do. Maybe since things have slowed down at the wine shop they can give several bottles to "sample"? Consider it "training"! Plus, you could have a drunken good time working on TBL!

Ah they give me far too many free samples as it is! I'm being paid to taste eight different whiskies tomorrow :D
