EHM The Blue Line

I'm just curious to know how many of you play the NHL EHM 2007 game this way or that way.

Do you like to coach the games yourself or do you let your coach do it for you?

I've always just let the coach do it and I simulate, but I'm wondering if I'll have more fun doing it the other way around. So if someone or anyone can give emphasis on what kind of difference it can make to the game, it would be fun to hear it.

I usually like to let the coach takeover in the games so I don't have to watch them. I don't give him full control though. I set rosters, lines, and tactics. I've gotten used to watching the games now though. It's one of the rules in the challenges now.

I'll have to do one of those challenges someday. Just to see if I'm actually as good as some of you around here.


Anyway, I think I'll probably let the coach takeover from now on, but just set the lines myself. Kind of helps me out, because I know who can score and who can't.

I always coach every game myself. I set the speed to as fast as possible and let it fly. It only takes 20-30 seconds per period and that let's me make changes if I need to (Goalie switch, PK tweaks, line matching etc.)

Maybe it's not necessary, but I like getting into the action.

The only time I have fun is when I play as realistically as possible... so that's what I do. I hire a coaching staff to do their roles, and I sit back an do my own role. If I'm without a coach, I then jump in as interim coach until I find someone to do the job(unless I do well as GM/coach, then I'll avoid disrupting the team by just keeping the job).

Same here. I'm the GM not the Coach! When I play double GMs (NHL + farm), I let the Head Coach of AHL doing all the job except training.



If the coaches IA wasn't so incompetent, I think I let him choose line-up and tactics as well.

Ugggh! I hate the lines the coaches come up with if you don't do it yourself! They end up based soley on reputation and you've got a ton of players playing out of position. When I'm controlling my farm team in addition to my NHL team I usually let the coach control the tactics but I set the roster and lines. I usually also put my farm GM on vacation a week or two at a time. I just want to make sure my prospects are getting trained right and icetime.

I hear some of you talking about having control of your NHL and AHL clubs. Can you do that within 1 game or would you need to start a new one and choose to be the AHL GM?

You can add a GM to your existing game in the Options menu.

Check the OR:

From there, you can add a GM to any team in any league you have enabled. That's the key, if you don't have the league 'turned on' you can't add a GM.

I usually add a GM to my AHL farm team in the 2nd season of a game. I don't care too much about the first AHL season as most of my prospects stay in juniors for the first season.

If you just simulate games it doesn't use the full tactical engine so, while depending on your team it could be better or worse I guess it def will give you different outcomes so that's why we changed to requiring it in the Challenges. There wasn't a difference before 07's 2-d engine was introduced.

Anyhow I think there's no doubt you get better results in playing your players in the proper roles which can only happen if you do your lines/tactics yourself. You can learn more about who's clicking and what issues pro and con your team is facing on a game-to-game basis by watching the games I think so overall it leads to better chance of success. I do 'very fast' with 'extended highlights' and after a few games you learn to sense how games are going etc.

But one of the key strengths of the game is you can approach it how you want to and within a bunch of levels within each main approach which is cool.

As for multiple GMs, yeah I usually end up with AHL second year and sometimes ECHL too if they have a team... but keep in mind you can take over and hire coaches, set lines and tactics etc. and set them to 'vacation' and just check in on them every now and then, just set the GM Options so they don't change your lines or hire a bunch of naff staff back when you give them back control

What do you mean exactly by "coaching the game"?
I set lines, tactics. What can you do more?? Maybe i miss a part of the game here

I had another question. Sometimes during the game, i see that my first line forwards are associated with my seconf line defense. Is that normal? Are the defense and forward line independant?

Garden Dwarf: by "coaching the game", we mean set lines and tactics, watch the game and adjust lines/tactics to the situations faced by the team on the ice (ie being more offensive-minded when trailing, for example).

And about your question, yes forward and defensive lines are independant. That's just logical, as you have 4 forwards lines and only 3 defensive pairs. The "blocks" of D-men+forwards are only for the special teams (ie powerplay, penalty kills, and 4vs4 even strength)

So in that case, i coach the game. Although i don't make much change during the match. Don' need to!

So far i'm top of the eastern conference and 2nd overall after 25 games.

I started a new game with the Sabres where I'm coaching the games myself and I find it to be much more fun. Just because you are able to build a comeback if you have to do so and you can also attack the weakness of the other team if your coach doesn't know how to do that himself, which in most cases, they don't.

But all in all, I guess simulating games isn't bad either. I've done that for about 3 months with the game and have always had fun as well.

I pretty much hate when the PC is doing the lines as sometimes they have leftshooting centers on the RW spot or things like that.

I set the roster, the lines and the tactics and I usually watch the game with extended highlights.

Usually I let the coach take over the practice as Iam not very familiar with it...but I want to change that too pretty soon!!!
