How can I maximize Crosby and Malkin's production?

I'm in the second year of my Penguins franchise, and I did a scouting report on both Crosby and Malkin. Keep in mind that almost all of their stats are in the green.
They told me Crosby is good for 50 goals and 80 assists, and that Malkin is good for around 100 points as well. However, I play through the season and such, and Malkin ends with around 76 points, and Crosby with around 72 I believe it was. I would think they'd have the ability to get more than that.
Currently, Crosby's linemates are Ryan Malone and March Recchi, while Malkin's are Nils Ekman and Mike Grier.
Is there something I'm doing wrong? Or are there any good tactics I should use or something? Thanks for the help.

Like for anything in hockey, there's no hard-and-fast rules... A player's productivity depends on many factors, like his teammates, linemates, cohesion, tactics, coaching staff, stability of the lines, locker room atmosphere, leadership (captain, ass'ts, and other players), injuries, practice schedules, and a bit of luck. If all those points are in the green, then your players will produce high numbers. Else, they should produce less than expecting, sometimes far less, depending on the number of difficulties you face.
One thing is sure: if it doesn't work at all: try something else! And wait 10-20 games to see if the "new thing" works better (give your players some time to adapt to the new linemates/coach/tactics, or whatever else you would change).

Malkin's linemates are not exactly top scorers.
I've got him in my fantasy draft team and he's getting better and better, was injured at the beginning of the season and had a slow start, is now on 6 goals and 17 assists in 20 games. Though he's playing with Karyia and Guerin/Afinogenov, I switch my RWs every now and then.
You might want to try to set his passing to creative.

All I can say is that coaching staff and linemates really do have something to do with it.
Since playing EHM 2007, I don't mess around with the NHL so much, but I dip around in the minor leagues. And from doing that, I've noticed that having a great coaching staff can get you places and it helps out those players on your team who need that extra little push.

These are always to be taken with a grain of salt, especially at lower levels. The key is that they say they are 'capable of' those kind of numbers but that doesn't mean they'll do it right away or at all. It's just an indicator really, not a guarantee.

While looking for a thread I saw last night about the explanation of all of the stats and what they do, I stumbled on this thread. So I will give my advice.
For the first two seasons, play Crosby with Malkin. For the first season you can put Recchi with them and all three will easily be over 100 points.

I've struggled with this too. Most recently I had luck signing Bondra to play with Crosby/Ekman, while Malkin is with Recchi/Malone. We're scoring lots of goals but suck defensively placing ~27th overall so far.

I have noticed that in order to really maximize the potential for any player in EHM 2007. You need to definitely run your own practices and tactics. Most players are better at passing or shooting. Which means you need to set them up to do that on whatever line they play on and also it helps to match them up with those that will make them look good on the ice.
All in all, just dive into the game a little more and definitely try to do your own tactics and coach your own games. Trust me, it makes a big difference. If you don't run your own stuff and just simulate through the whole time that you play EHM 2007, then you will most likely not hit 100 points with most of the players on your team who can do that for you.
You can take my advice or just leave it here, but I use to just simulate and I never got Crosby, Staal, Malkin, Ovechkin, or any other big time player to get over 100 points. But then I started diving into running my game all by myself with practices by me, the tactics that I like, and everything else.
Now I got Ovechkin going almost for 200 points and Heatley is right behind him this year in my game. So it proves that doing your own stuff can help you out in a big way.
But if you still want to simulate your own stuff. Then the best thing you can do is just go with a good coaching staff that will run the team correctly and coach them right.

Take time, they get a lot better after a couple years. Plus better line mates/tactics.
Malkin had 72 points my first year, Crosby had 102
Eventually Malkin avg. 135 points seasons with a best one of 193 points and 97 goals.
Crosby avg. 150 points seasons with a best one of 180 points.
Malone Crosby Hossa line really clicked for me.
