I can't get the likes of Crosby & Ovechkin to play well

Here is something that I just don't understand on EHM 2007. Let's say you start your game and enter the draft, you decide to go with Ovechkin or even Crosby. You want someone you can keep around for many years and those two can do it.
Anyway, once you have them on your team, they don't seem to produce like they should. Such as if you have Crosby for 82 games, he only scores maybe 80 points and if you have Ovechkin, he does the same. But when you see them on other teams the whole season, Crosby or Ovechkin easily go over 100 points.
So why is it that when you have them on your own team, they just don't produce like they do on others. Is it simply because they don't have the right players around them or what? Also, does it help to actually just run the tactics yourself and make Crosby or Ovechkin shoot more or whatever?
I'm just curious about those things that I listed above. Anyone can help out and answer a few of those are throw out your opinions, I'd appreciate it.

I've actually noticed the exact opposite. At least Crosby always seems to underperform in my games on the CPU controlled teams, usually around 65-70 points on the season.
I had Malkin in my fantasy drafted team and he accumulated about 450 points in 4 seasons, never had Ovechkin or Crosby so can't comment on them as far as point production is concerned.
I would think it helps if you do tactics on your own, I for one don't trust my coach to do the tactics. I'd set a player like Ovechkin to shoot instead of pass obviously, also I'd play him on a line with a creative playmaker and quick linemates with the whole unit set to high tempo, also the passing set to creative at least for the playmaker (of course this really requires to have a guy on his line with high ratings in creativity and passing otherwise he'd turn the puck over too often).
As for Crosby, I'd play him with 2 quick wingers, one of them a top scorer preferably, the other one can be even a role player, unit set to high tempo and creative passing in the personal settings.
Getting the PP settings right is important as well considering they get a fair share of their total points with the man advantage.

Production depends on many factors... linemates, teammates (never underestimate the impact of the locker room

), tactics, coaches, style of play...and even a bit of luck

I'll take that all into consideration and see if maybe I can't start surrounding Crosby or Ovechkin with some help or just good linemates.

Put Ovechkin with someone like Getzlaf and then add in someone like McDonald, he should start Producing(had this line in one game each and every player 100+P) they played my 2nd line too so i would jump them up if thier gonna be you main line.
Crosby should Have the likes of Cheechoo (as the shooter) (set that player to shoot) get someone like Lehtinen as the 3rd player on the line, that should get you producing.
You may also wanna add a D-man like Zubov, or Neidermayer to play with that line Mostly(you can never gauntee they will play with them but if you set your D-pairs to Overload and forward Lines to (Overload/Just 2/Just 3) they will mostly be on the ice with those players.
Your lines/PP Should look something like
Crosby(Passing) make sure he is on Creative
Cheechoo(Shoot) Set Team Orders to Aim High, Barrage
Lehtinen(shoot)
Forward usage to Overload or Just 3
Defensive Usage to Overload
Pick up 3 PA D-men one top quality guy
your Zubov or Neidermayer(type player) should be set to Pass
Set Tempo to High,
Hitting Low
Pressure High
Use a Free Flowing style
This i find most effective for offense with my team. but i don't use Crosby or Ovechkin
For Ovechkin
(If you don't want to throw them(Crosby and Ovechkin) on the same line
Ovechkin(Shoot)
Getzlaf(Pass)
McDonald(Pass)
Creative Passing for both Getz and McDonald
Tempo High
Pressure High
Hitting Low
Aim High
Barrage
Style Shouldn't matter much, best bet would prolly be Free Flowing though.
You Don't have to grab these specific players but you should grab players along these lines.
If you have the room and he doesn't have a NTC try landing Thornton from the Sharks/Bruins or whatever other team he may be on. For use with Ovechkin.
Give that a try should work for you. But i am not the end all to the game so if they don't don't get too mad

I'm typically always the Caps, so Ovechkin starts playing with Zubrus and Clark, and for whatever reason, those two seem the perfect complement. In that situation, I set Zubrus as the playmaker and set the unit tactics to positional, attacking style. Ovechkin's shooting is set to barrage.
In the first season of the game, he broke Gretzky's goal-scoring record (put up 95-72), while Zubrus led the league in assists with 82 and Clark potted 44 goals (in 66 games). Oh yeah, Ovechkin had 500+ shots on goal.
So basically, just have Ovechkin play with physical guys who can skate and make him shoot A LOT.
