It sounds like that player isn't somebody you should try to make learn another position. You can't make every player learn a new position. There is a hidden rating (IIRC) for the player's adaptability or versatility. Something like that. Anyhow, this rating helps determine how hard or easy it is for the player to learn a new position. Some guys just won't learn a new one.

I guess if you were desperate enough, you could use the editor over at EastsideUK. I don't know if they actually have a save game editor or just a pregame editor. I don't really mess with the editors.

Question on the same topic: If a dude (player) gets played alot on a position he's not "natural" on, does he eventually learn it, or is the only way to accomplish that thru practice?

It should be like that - atleast in real world the best place to learn is in the game, not in practice. :-k

Tasku: In the game, i know that playing at the new position helps to learn it faster if trained for this new position. However, i never risked to loose time to play a guy to a new position without asking him to learn this position. :D

Thanks Shadd, that's all I needed to know.

In short: Playing the position helps to learn new position as well as training on it. That's brilliant! :-)

It's in your practice screen. Look for the unused practice regimen. When you select that one, you should see your various levels for fitness, skating, and the rest. You should also see a selection for "Learn a new position". Select it there.

Some tips:
1."Competent" players are much more easier to learn a new position (it takes a season or so with appropriate training). Like Shadd666 has mentioned, you better play them at that position to succeed. 8-)
2. Eventually, "Competent" players become "Accomplished" in a new position. However, if a player is competent in two positions, prepare yourself that he completely loses his ability to play the other one. For example, "Natural" center that competent in both wings, remains "Natural" in center, but "Accomplished" only in a specific wing that he was trained for. Be wise GM! By mistake, I trained a right shooter (J.Carter) to a LW position and he completely lost his ability to play RW. Such a great player, but simply one-dimensional...
3.Don't waste your time on an "Unconvincing" ability. It takes a way too long and in most cases doesn't worth it.
4. Sometimes players can forget their learned ability, it happens often in an offseason when they are rested.
:dunno:
I hope it helps!

I'd also add that players learn a new position quicker during pre-season games. Especially "accomplished" players can have their new position learned during the course of the exhibition games and so get ready for their new role at the start of the season :D

Teaching a player a new position in EHM 2007

I'd like to train one of my defencemen to play left wing. I've pulled up the Practice page for my team, and I've gone to my "General" schedule template. I can see the "Change Position" button, but I want to make sure that only that one player learns to play left wing. I don't want a whole team full of left wings. :)

Is it as simple as checking the box beside that player's name?

Thanks for the answer to what might be a ridiculously simple question.

Just create a practice drill for this player and don't forget to make him play LW!

I guess I'm asking how to make sure the practice drill applies to him, and only him. I've been using him at LW already, and he's actually been decent...that leads me to believe that once he truly learns the position, he'll be a star.

I'm managing a major junior team, by the way.

I think you need to read the EHM guide (top of the screen here at TBL, a button says "TBL EHM Guide"). IIRC, the guide was written back when EHM 2005 came out but certain things, like training, remain the same.

Here is a link to the training section...

EDIT:

Also, there was already a thread about teaching a player to learn a new position. I'll go ahead and merge this one with that but in the future please do a forum search (the little magnifying glass at the top right of the screen) before starting a new thread.

No but please read the other umpteen threads and the knowledge base and things will become clearer.

Welcome aboard...and always remember to look through other threads for your answer.

Thanks

batdad...I have moved this to the correct thread

I took Galchenyuk and created a drill with everything med except for Tactics, Shooting and Defense which are at intense and I also added learn new position Center. I played him for the entire 15/16 season at center (he played LW for the 14/15 season). His numbers look great and faceoff are now at 12 which is ok I guess but he is still listed as LW/C will he ever become a Natural center or will he always remain Accomplished which is where he started?

Accomplished as high as he can go in secondary position. Basically could be same as natural in numbers you cannot see in the game.

I see. So my only trouble now is that he averages a 6.5 rating instead of the 7.5+ he gets at left wing. So I guess it becomes a decision of where you want to play him. I presume some players have less of a difference when they play a different position especially if it is not top 3 forwards or top 2 def. Just a matter of temperament. Also I would guess that when the next TBL Roster comes out he will be a natural center. Which brings me to the next question. If you load a new database do you have to start a new game or will the stats just update for the saved game you have? My guess is the former but I may be wrong.

You need to restart your game to use the new database.
