Hello and little frustrations

Hello to everyone, I remember finding this game years ago when it was a free-share program and it only ran on 98 I believe. Then I got XP and I lost track of the game until recently.

I have to tell you this is the best simulation out there, obviously I don't need to tell you that. And obviously, it's not intended for the causal hockey fan. This is almost too in depth.

I am the GM of the Redwings. I started with the original rosters, except I used the pre game to add my self and to adjust a few players attributes (D.Cleary is way underevaluated in my opinion). Well I am almost through the season and I am 22-37-4. I am averaging 2.7 goals a game and giving up 3.9 a game. N.Lidstrom is a -27, Draper a -22 and D.Hasek as a 3.01 GAA. I am getting heat from the board about my GM abilities and all my players are unhappy. I have won only 7 games at home on top of that.

My questions are this...What? Seriously, what in the world is going on? I am all for a game that gives you random results, but how in the world does a Redwing team have a 22-37-4 record, only have 7 wins at home and is almost giving up 4 goals a game? And when I watch a game, I have players doing all sorts of crazy things, Lidstrom will run at someone, only to be completely out of position and allow a odd man rush. I up my hitting and I had one team get 17 pp's, I lower my hitting and the next team gets 47 shots. I understand about the 2D and it's not perfect, I just wanted to make sure there wasn't something I can do to change weird acts by my 2D players.

And what as a GM can I do to change things? I try to run practice, then have my coach, I try team tactics, then use unit, then personal too. I've done everything. I actually lost 6 straight games at one time, being shut out in 3 in a row.

Is there some hidden coaching or tactics I should be doing?

Thanks.
Chad

Welcome to TBL Chad...

Out of the blue what comes to my mind is that you might actually be doing too many changes. You should let your players get used to their new lines / new tactics for quite a few games, before you can tell, if they're working.

1st never let the coach run practices no matter who it is I guarantee they suck at it. If you do a bit of looking on this board you can find some good practice regimes. As far as tactics there are several different tactical styles you can find here or at the eastside board. For starting out I recommend the slapshot.

I should recommend the Tactics Guide written by Archibalduk and myself. It's mainly the basics, so a die-hard hockey fan may not learn a lot of things, but it may help you if you're struggling with your EHM team. You can find the guide in the download section.

Advices from Tasku and Thunderbug (who won the latest season of our challenge ;)) are usefull too. If you still struggle after all of that (give it some time!), then don't hesitate to come back and ask for more advices :)

Oh, and of course, welcome to TBL! :D Hope you'll have fun with us :)
