How to make a youngster want to play Major Junior? Can you?

I created "myself" and put me as a free agent to start the game, hoping to draft myself in the '07 WHL Bantam Draft.
But I've got a problem. My player wants to go the college route.
What can I do so that he wants to play in the WHL before starting a new game?

I doubt you can do anything about it. Random.

Isn't there an option in the editor allowing you to set this?
I'm pretty sure I remember seeing one... though it's been a while, so don't hold me to it.

Ah, yes there is. Junior Preference. My bad.

I put myself in the game once, and watched my player make his way from the juniors all the way up to the NHL Draft. Then the Oilers go and draft me.
What a sad day that was.

Lol!

I understand your pain

I don't know if it's possible to set team preferences in the editor, but you should have put the Oilers as a hated team, and probably the Flames as your favorite team. It would have avoided this embarassing moment... ^^

I doubt the favourites would effect on who would draft him, because that decision is not up to the player himself, but they do effect on who this player would rather sign contracts with. Same as past experiences with the team.
Then again, who knows, maybe the AI GM can see that the player hates his team and won't draft him...

Well, i tend to think that if we know that player X likes/dislikes a team or someone, it's probably because he told it to the press. That's how anyone can know it. And i doubt that a team will draft a player who hates them if they know it. Or if they draft him, he'll be unhappy and will probably ask to be traded

The Nordiques drafted Eric Lindros, who made it clear pre-draft he wouldn't play for them

I've never had anythin like this at all, the Lindros saga was pretty rare, has anyone else had a player refuse to play for the team that drafted them, i didn't think players had dislikes of teams that they werent in that league, but i aint sure.
I'm not even sure that u can draft a player who wants to play in College, as in real life, when Jonathan Toews was selected 1st overall in the WHL Bantam Draft, in EHM, can players who pick college be drafted in later rounds, which is what normally happens???

Where you set up current ability, potential ability, the positions, height etc. there's also a tab "junior preference". Mind you, this is for the pre-game editor.

Getzlaf: You can pick players who want to play college whenever you want in the major junior drafts. Then of course, it's not really clever to draft them with your top picks if they have no intention to play in major juniors, unless you gamble that they'll be drafted and signed by NHL teams before being sent back to you... But like i said, it's a gamble... But it could worth it if there is few talent in the draft...

Are you using the latest version of the editor? Because when I created myself it was there..

I play as the Flames, and had Aaron Marvin (a very talented player I might add) playing in college. I had no problem signing him when I was ready to move him to the AHL.
What's the danger of drafting college guys?

I think he meant in WHL, that if you draft college guys to a team like Regina Pats or any other team in that league, the player wants to play for the college he already plays for.

Yup, the topic is about the major junior drafts, not NHL draft, where college guys aren't an issue at all. But when managing major junior teams, you obviously like to be able to sign the players you draft, which is rarely the case with players who want to play college hockey, unless they want both college and junior.
