Now the CHL protected areas in Canada are obvious but what determines which league an American hockey player will be eglible for?

Geography. Western states-WHL. Middle States-OHL. Eastern States-QMJHL> Things are weird in it, because when they did the boundaries of course...noone played hockey in Texas..so noone cared who got Texas.

Now however...Texas is starting to produce, so WHL gets some good stuff.

Would I be correct if I say New England - QMJHL, rust belt - OHL and everything else - WHL?

If you define rust belt for me, and it comes up as central USA under Ontario, you are right.

According to the manual :

QMJHL :
Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut.

WHL :
Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii :-? , Idaho, Kansas, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.

It does not say anything about the OHL, but Wikipedia says the states of Michigan and Pennsylvania, and other designated U.S. states.

Players also born in New Jersey or New York are eligible for the OHL, such as Kane from Buffalo, Van Rimesdyk from NJ who was drafted by Brampton, and Petrecki who is from New York who was drafted by Plymouth. Ian Cole, who was drafted by Belleville is from Michigan

This is a WHL draft/roster question to which several hours of searching has not come up with anything. I'm in my 4th season with the Kamloops Blazers and finally have a good team which has made the WHL final. Since this is my first time this far into the playoffs I had not run across this problem. The WHL bantam draft was held April 27th and the western final has only started. I have a roster problem and since I'm still playing I can't dump overages or excess 19 year olds but after the draft I'm told I have to get down to 50 players which means I either have to dump half my existing players/and or next years or pretty much forgo my future. It looks like there's no way around this issue unless somebody has figured something out that's slipped past me. Any help would be appreciated. :) Thanks

Well, I dumped a bunch of young players and drafted but unsigned players. :( And then I found out EHM really doesn't like junior hockey. The same day I clinched the WHL title 6 of my 19 year olds signed pro contracts and immediately disappeared off my roster. One was returned to me but I went into the Mem Cup with an extreme rookie roster. Then to boot every game i played in the memcup I was the away team.... wow.. talk about tough love. Anyway I somehow managed to squeek out a 4-3 win in the final but I sure don't know how I did it. The 19 year olds signing during the playoffs and then getting put on AHL/NHL rosters should not be allowed but I guess some things slipped through that shouldn't have... O well... I'm learning anyway. :)

Thats because they have a host team :-D. The WHL, QMJHL and OHL Playoff champions + The Host. That's why your games were all away. :-D

Well, thats true in a sense, but I'm pretty sure theres a designated home team for every game, even the games between to so called visiting teams. Anyway, it's not a biggie but losing all but one of my 19 year olds going into the cup isn't so fun.
