Matching an Offer Sheet (07)

I searched for this and came up not finding what I was looking for so I am posting... If I have rfa and the comp signs him to an offer sheet, my news tells me I have seven in game days to match. Problem is that I cannot figure where this is supposed to happen, it was never a big deal playing offline, but, that I've gone online I am going to lose a decent d man I'd like to keep. So come on, is this some huge oversight by SI? Or am I missing something basic? Oh, and if I try to just offer a contract normally it tells me he's already accepted a contract with whoever. Thanks.

Hmm....interesting thing. Never seen it, never heard of it. Wonder if this is going to be an issue for the online gamers. I know the CPU can match, not sure why you cannot. No news item the next day when you sim? Not sure.
Never seen this question on SI either. Interesting, and frustrating for you too I am sure.

It's in the news, but, there's no option or anything...

I did a quick test of this. I offered a riduclous contract to a RFA and he accepted. I was GM of both the offering team and the rights-holder. You get a news item, but no options and if you try to offer him a contract, it says you can't because he's already accepted a contract from another team. Weird.

But isn't it a week in real life to match? Maybe...just maybe the game waits that week and then gives the offer to match? I dunno, just thinking. Did you try that or could you hypno?

That was exactly what I was thinking. After those 7 days pass, doesn't a news item pop up with the option of matching the offer?

Negative. No news item, other than to say the player has signed with the other team. I guess this means, lock up your RFAs or risk losing them like UFAs.

What about the compensation? Was it paid out?
And maybe it's just me, but I've never, ever, seen a AI GM send an offer sheet (or match one, for that matter). Maybe that's why, this is seriously flawed.

What's seriously flawed is when you're playing online and a guy signs somebody to a contract where I'm getting no compensation and want to match...

Yep. Online games are going to have to make rules about that I guess. Like...no going after RFA's

I better not invite Kevin Lowe to my online EHM games anymore, then.

The offer sheet that I tendered was for $1 mil per for 3 years so TB got a 2nd round pick in the next draft.

Well, typically, letting a guy go RFA is only to sign them to a cheaper contract, so, in my books, it's supplier beware. If you're too cheap to pony up the dough, beware the consequences may be dire. I have lost Methot, although it might square off if I get Mike Green sniped as an RFA. Off-topic I know, but, has anybody tried to hack 07 to allow more then 16 teams?

From my experience and from what I gathered on the boards, this is rarely (if ever) an issue whilst playing vs. the AI as they don't seem to try to sign other clubs RFAs. I never thought about the RFA delayed-contract exploit. I always offer the guys I want to keep what I feel is a reasonable and equitable contract (which always meets qualifying requirements). If I don't think they are worth at least their qualifying amount, I let them walk. If they say no, the contract stays on the table for however long the game let's it (I think it has to do with how the player reacts to the contract). Sometimes they take it later, if not I see if I can make a trade and get something in return. I think this is pretty close to RL.

Well, what I'm trying to get across is that since I don't play off line anymore it's a rather large problem. And when you're playing with other real players they know very well that if you don't trade him they have a shot at him in the off season for nothing. It's completely different playing against other humans. You become much more contract savvy because you can't just dump him off on some unsuspecting team, there has to be a market for him. There's more waiver and buy out activity.

And what we have discovered is that there is a hole in the game where you don't get to match offer sheets. Thus you either have to have your online league make concessions or make sure your RFAs are tied up prior to July 1.

Again../banning RFA signings for online leagues. Or after one is signed there can be a mesasge board to say if you match or not, then edit the game. Although, since I don't play online not 100% if you can edit an online game.

I think it'll become a tough luck deal if you lose somebody.
Everybody just kept talking how it was so insignificant because it never happened (offline) and I was just trying to get across that it does happen (and it has consequences) in online play is all.

I get a News letter a week after with the Options "match" and "Walk" similar to the Arbitration when teams offer to me RFA's.
