Specific Outstanding Player

Has anyone had a completely random or unexpected player perform extremely well?

I had this happen to me with Anson Carter... He was in the top 5 for the league's scoring 3 years in a row... and in my current season he looks like he might make it into the top 10 again.
Has anyone else experienced this with a random player?

I think if you go over to the Challenge Forum you'll find a lot of people getting amazing seasons out of the likes of Mike York, Shane Doan and Steven Reinprecht.

Shane Doan for me was in the top 10 points getters for 3 years running, and two of those years he was in the top 3. Last year he was my top point getter, but no one was in the top 50 on my team. Enver Lisen is also doing very well for me.

I dunno, someone like Shane Doan I would expect to produce some amazing numbers.... Mike York being a top 10 scorer in the league would most certainly get my attention though.

I don't necessarily mean players on your team either, I had Carter for one season (his first 90 point+ season in my game) and then I traded him off under the assumption that his "one wonder season" was done and he'd never again appear in the top 50 of the league's scorers, let alone the top 5. The next 2 seasons he did it again and I was a sad sad panda :-k

I have had a few players actually come through and help me out. Especially those players that you might sign or get in trades that might seem to be worthless at the time, but help you win playoff games.

I have had Shane Doan do well for me and I also have had Eric Lindros do well for me as well.

Yeah, Lindros seems to do well if you can get a significant amount of games out of him. In my current game, he had over 80 points in something like 75 games for the Stars in the first season, which was terrific bang for the buck given his salary. He then signed with the Wings for 2 seasons at >$4 million per, and didn't reach a total of 75 games during the entire length of the contract.

I played alot using Coyotes and always managed to get Doan in the top 10 scorers. York and Reinprecht are more difficult.

Lisin always struggled for me but he was always a 2nd liner.

This past season (13-14) I had Lisin get more points than Doan. He seems to work well with Hanzal and Meuller for second line. Doan is getting a little older now and I may have to send him down to second line and Lisin up. But we'll see.

Henrik Tallinder was one of my first moves when I took over the Blues in 2006. He was a good defender, nothing special, played mostly 2nd pairing. Two years later, in the preseason rankings, he is named the 4th best defender in the league. He always performed well alongside his defensive partner Regehr, but that was a bit surprising to me.

Rene Bourque. What i can rember I never really noticed this guy from prevoius saves.
So when i started with blackhawks i was kinda surprised when he produced 82 pts the first season, 80 pts the second and 127 the third season.
Worth mentioning is that he hasnt even been drafted.

Jurislav Melicherik (I think that`s right). The Canucks own his rights at the start of the game. You have to wait for the transfer window to open so you don`t get him until june but he has put up consecutive 100+ point seasons for me on a couple of teams. Did I mention he`s cheap.

Rick DiPietro. In my game in the 2014-2015 season he won the Vezina trophy and William M Jennings trophy despite having a very offense orientated team in front of him. Usually he would get like 50 wins a year and about 6 shutouts but having a high GAA and Save %. This yeah he posted (including the playoffs) a 1.99 GAA and 0.919 Save %.

I have good experience with Dan Hinote and Per Ledin. Both are defensive specialists, but they can score too. And they're cheap and loyal. I can always count on them in special defensive teams. Hinote knows to play all offensive positions (LW/RW/C)

I think he's a regen player but he's surprising me thus far in the post season.

Graham Moore a 23-year old 5-6 potential I signed out of Western in the CIS.

9 games, 0 goals, 6 assists, +7

Well, on Lidas' 1.3 rosters, I am using my Canucks and for me, Steve Bernier, Mattias Ohlund, and Sami Salo are having career years. Bernier is 5th in scoring playing with the Sedins while Ohlund and Salo are deadly on the powerplay. I wasn't expecting them to be this good. Mind you, with the Red Playmover tactic, I am getting chance after chance

I always get surprised by some players in the playoffs.

Kulemin barely gets 50 pts in the regular season, then goes PPG in the playoffs and scores huge goals (tying or gwg).

Greg Moore had a sensational year as a 32 year old in my save. He played for Florida Panthers and had put up about 30 goals in 41 games and a couple of assist.

Yeah, Moore has been playing excellent in my Predators Challenge. First year he had an AvR of 8.00 and second season an AvR 8.45 when playing in Rangers. This season they just waived :-? him in the preseason. What a bunch of idiots....

I added Moore to my Coyotes franchise awhile back. He was great as my second line right wing, and I got him as an AHL prospect for a song.
