EHM Billionaire style

Hey, I've recently been stuggling to find new types of challenges for my EHM games. I've played basicaly everywhere in north america including climbing from the minor leagues, and also the top leagues in Europe.

But it came to me: I had the idea of getting a half-arsed, bottom league team and insert money there like there's no tomorrow, then climb to the top ranks in that country and in Europe.

I instantly thougth of British Hockey, with the Chelsea team and all, but I don't know if their top leagues are open or not. By open I mean, if you win in the bottom league, you advance automaticaly.

I know Finnish leagues are open, that you play the top-league's bottom teams for a spot in the upper-schelon leagues, but where else? Sweden? UK? Russia?

Also, has anyone ever done this? My idea was adding money and budget by the pre-game editor and keep it that way every season with the save-game editor, if needed. I guess it can work, right?

Only Sweden and Finland have playable teams that can be promoted.

In fact, out of the 13 countries in the game, only five even have more than one league; U.S., Canada, England, Sweden, and Finland.

So, if I play, say, the Wightlink Raiders, I can win the League 100 times and remain there forever? :(

But they can't be promoted, according to Stinson.

I'm pretty sure they can... :-k But i have a doubt now... :-?

Anyhow, if you want to play with promotion/relegation, i think that Finland is your best bet, as there are 3 playable leagues all linked by promotion/relegation :joy: Sweden has just 2 leagues, like England. USA and Canada have obviously more leagues, but it's only closed-leagues (ie no promotion/relegation system like in Europe).

Both English leagues are definitely closed.

Wikipedia, English Premier Ice Hockey League:

"The league currently consists of 10 teams, and is generally considered to be the second tier league below the Elite Ice Hockey League although there is no promotion or relegation between the two."

Stinson is right - it's only FIN and SWE that have open league structures. I remember coaching Forssan Palloseura (aka FPS) in the Finnish leagues - I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of working up the leagues.

Even though they play in a closed league structure, a fair few people have had good fun coaching the Wightlink Raiders. There's a thread where everyone was discussing each other's progress: http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums/vi ... php?t=1937 To some extent they reached cult status within a section of TBL's community. There's an interesting news article about them somewhere (was it TSN?) - I think there's a link somewhere within that thread.

My bad.

Probably because they were said to be the weakest playable team with the original DB :D (I doubt it changed with the updates, but can't say for sure...)

Hey, right now I'm playing Pietarsaari (is that right?) from Finnish bottom league and having a lot of fun! I'm playing my way the promotion league (along with the above league's bottom two teams, I guess).

Technically the Elite League is not just English, it has teams from Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland as well as England. But yes much like the NHL is dominated in numbers by USA teams the elite is with English teams.

The English Premier League is made up of only English teams. However yes both leagues are closed.
