Training Camp/Waiver Question

Before anyone says it....yes....I did search, and couldn't find my answer.

I am starting Training Camp, and I want to bring up a lot of my farm players who are eligible for regular season waivers, but I don't want them to have to clear waivers when/if they're cut.

In the past, I've been able to re-assign these guys to the AHL up until a certain date it seems. Maybe it's based on how many pre-season games they play, I am not sure.

Can anyone fill me in on what conditions (or date) need to be met before a player is no longer "waiver exempt" during camp?

I think (but am not 100% sure here) that you have until September 24th at night to send them down freely. On September 25th, the roster limitation of 23 players in the roster applies, so i guess you have to got your roster selection done at this time.

Once again, it's just a guess. If a guy is eligible for waivers, i just don't call him up because i'm not sure of the date and don't want to stress about waivers.

One idea is, when you get the news item saying today all the final cuts are expected. Make all the final cuts. ;P

Yeah, if you send them down directly after training camp ends, I have never had a problem - but don't wait longer than that. Don't keep people up for exibitions after training camp etc.

Thanks guys. For some reason, I was under the impression that they had to be re-assigned before the first cuts for some reason (September 16, 2008).
