Training Camp

hey all, I was wondering about training camps... is there any way to have your "established" players" (in my case, players like Kessel, Marleau, Hossa, Zerdev Drury and Lisin up front... Stuart, Wilson, Seabrook on D.. Price in goal) not partake in the the scrimmages?
I know who they are, I know how they play, they are going to be on the team... I want to take a a much harder look at my AHL players and my unsigned prospects, and with the Key/Core NHLers stealing the spotlight in training camp it makes it hard to get a really good judgement of the newbies!
Thanks,

Use your youngsters in the pre-season exhibition games on key roles. That's what the AI general manager does.

Well, that I already do.
I was more curious about the scrimmage games they play, thanks.

Yeah what you do is go into the traning camp menu where you can select open and how many teams. Anyone you don't want in any of the scrimmages don't select a team for them. The others divide up on the different teams.

Yeah, like thunderbug said, just don't select a team for them (in the training camp menu, it's usually Team Red and Team Blue, or White, whatever). Keep it unselecte and the guy won't paticipate in the morning scimmages.
But try to make sure the teams are balenced. I mean, 8 defensemen in one team and two in the other won't make for a good review on the teams.

Wow, this is something new to me. I've always sit my NHL proven players in exibition games until camp is over, but I never realized you can unselect a player from their scimmages team. How do you do that exactly? I remember trying to click on their existing team, but the selection stays on. Clicking on another team just switch team up.
Edit:
After thinking about it, it might be better to setup 4 teams and put your prospect in 2 teams and the vet on the other 2. I think we can see in advance which team is playing against which.
Thinking about it more, I think i'll be too lazy to do any of that.

To unselect them, just click on the team they're on. Let's say player X is on team Blue, click on "blue" and he'll be unselected.

Thank you thank you thank you.
This is exactly what I was looking for.
Repeat messages of Marleau Hossa and Kessel "stealing the spotlight" at training camp are really not helping me!

I've never really sat the "proven player" all the way through training camp, alltough I don't dress them for more then two or three exibithions during and after training camp. It does make sense, though, to at least not dress them for all four scrimmages matches.
About using four teams, I've tried that before, but didn't suceed. I believe, unless you have a lot (and I mean A LOT) of prospects in camp, and a healthy number of invitees, your teams will be thin and guys will end up playing too many minutes. I don't want them playing more then 15min when they're not in top, game shape yet.

You don't need that much players to run 4 teams. Those teams are made of a maximum of 2 lines. So, at max, you'll have 2G, 4D and 6F playing for any given team. You can have more guys in the team, but some won't play. And you have no control over who's gonna play or not. The scrimmage matches are made of 2 periods of 20 minutes if i remember correctly. With only 2 lines, it's pretty obvious that your guys will play more or less 20 minutes. Sure, they're not in game shape yet, but the only way to be in game shape is to play

Those scrimmage games are of a lower intensity than regular season games, so it's not a problem if you're guys play a lot of minutes.
So basically, with 4 teams, you can have at max 8 goalies, 16 defensemen and 24 forwards playing. You don't need that much player though, but it's the maximum number of guys who'll play. With just 2 teams, you're limited to 4 goalies, 8 defensemen and 12 forwards. If you have more guys who you want to play in the scrimmages (and there are strong chances that you have it in the NHL), you'd better switch to 4 teams. Empty spots are automatically filled with those mysterious "grey players"

so you don't have to worry about having empty spots.

I know what you're talking about, Shadd, but from my own experience, players get tired from playing too many minuts in scrimmage matches. I don't know about you, but I put my training af 100% intensive all through summer, and rest for three days before camp. Players get 100% in conditioning, but are tired still, and drop to below 85% after a tough scrimmage match.
Oh well, anyway, to each their own. I've tried it many times with small, two-lines scrimmage rosters and didn't suceed. I usually use 4 goalies, 9 forwards and 5 or 6 defensemen. That adds up to 32-34 players. And remenber, I don't play my top players in all scrimmage matches (mostly sit them before an exibithion), so it can be up to 38 players getting at least decent time in training camp. I would say that's effective. I don't usually have rosters bigget then that, and still have to invite one or two unsigned players to fill it out.
With four teams, two-lines each, that adds up to 40 playes, not to mention the goalies. If you use one for each team (with the backup a "misterious" grey player), then it's 44 players. They get more minutes, but if I want to sit a top player, I'll need 46 to 48 players, or more. That, to me, means "A LOT of prospects and a healthy number of invitees", as I previously mentioned.

Players get easily tired during camp. They are not in physical shape yet. But once set on rest, they are back at 100% the day after, so it's not that much of an issue if they're tired after scrimmages (unless you have an exhibition game on the same day, of course).

On the training camp question thing im working on a CHL story and i was wondering i know u cna only have 2 imports signed but does that mean u cant invite other europeans to camp? The reason why i say that is because im playing as Chilliwack Bruins and i know one of the 2 players i just took i nthe Import draft will sign a contract and i already have Oscar Moller on my team but i want to give the other player some icetime in camp even know hes on a european team for 30k for the 1 season coming up will he still reject it or would he come to camp?

I'm pretty sure you can invite him (why not just try and see if it will let you?) but who knows if he will accept.

Yep. No others allowed. You can only have two at a time. Game will not let you sign or likely invite if you hve 2 already. Try and invite him, see what happens

I thought I had more than 2 imports under contract in the Saint John challenge and I just sent one down to my affiliate.

I was never able to do it. When I went to sign I got a note back saying I had too many if I was trying to get the third guy.

Hmmm... maybe I demoted the guy first? I could've sworn I had more than 2 under contract but only 2 on the team (or only 2 dressed).

I know this is off topic, but didn't find a thread for it, instead of starting a new one for nothing....
When the training camp finish, all player are always tired, yes it's normal but, when the training camp start ( it's my first season so i start at 30 august ) Near the 10 september, i put my foward to skating and my defence on conditionning, when they get all tired at the end of the camp, normally i don't touch anything because they restore fast, but with this team ( Canucks ) i'm in the 15 november and some player still have dificulty with there rest.
Like H,Sedin is at 75%, D.Sedin 80% some player are at 60%, i don't know why, with my Thrashers i never have this kind of problem, they were all at 100%-95% all season long with no problem and i have the same way of training ( first 2 months skating/conditionning and after defence or offence ) and i always use the training file that i download on the site, so no more than 2 or 3 intensive per player. Is anybody encounter the same problem? because i don't really know what to do....with a team always tired, performances begin to go down....
