WOW!!! Another sudden cardiac arrest. The only thing that saved Jiri Fischer's life was the portable defib. Unreal.

These sudden cardiac arrests among athletes is both scary and shocking to be honest.
Heard about like 10 instances since Antonio Puerta passed away last year.

Anyways, rest in peace Alexei.

Even more unbelievably, reports are saying this could possibly have been prevented.

If you watch the video on TSN, it's kinda eerie how one of the teammates helping out on the bench, #68, his Russian name resembles "RIP".

Man, this is horrible news, I've just found out on NHL.com...very sad for a young player with such a bright future.

Very sad day when someone loses their life at all, let alone because of a shabby response by emergency workers and a lack of equipment on site.

This sucks, and now it's under investigation. Supposedly the aid workers didn't have a working defibrilator and took to long to respond.

Any word yet on why he had a heart attack to begin with? Did he have a pre-existing heart condition that anyone knew about? Or maybe some sort of heart defect that wasn't diagnosed? It's such a shame.

I haven't heard anything yet, but it sholudn't take many days to hear the reason.

Of course, it's still just 'he said she said' at this point.

That's terrible news. It seems to be an increasingly common tragedy in numerous sporting events. I hope it's not true that he shouldn't have even been playing hockey in the first place - it would be horrendous if his death ought to have been avoided.

I hope this doesn't get taken the wrong way, but I think it would be a good thing if this could have been avoided.

'Cause if it could have, then this'll show everyone what can happen if proper precaution isn't taken, which should lead to a safer environment in the future. Kind of like Brittanie Cecil's death at the Columbus game proving that fan protection could be a lot better. As a result, it very quickly got better.

Apparently the NHL is already discussing changing how they test for heart things. Currently, they look for indicators (blood pressure, and whatever else) before they look for the issue that Cherepanov and the kid from ONtario had. Now...they are discussing actually testing for it right off the hop. This would be an extreme help...diagnose these kids with the issue before something happens.

They certainly need to change it. I think it was Cherepanov's agent said that it was undetected by NHL teams at the combine, otherwise teams would have been totally put off completely when drafting him. Good to see the NHL looking at improving the tests though. For everyone's sakes.

Cherepanovs case is now going to be overtaken by the police, in order to establish if his condition could have been detetected earlier, and if the medical attention that was on hand was indeed enough for the situation.
As bad as this sounds, I'm hoping that the results state it couldn't be helped, would be terrible to know such a tragedy was avoidable.

Unfortunately, if it is proven that it could've been prevented, it's just going to result in a lot of finger-pointing. Everyone will claim that the other should've detected it.

In Finland in JYP team has a goalie named Sinuhe Wallinheimo, he was on loan in russianleague.
He said in paper interview: (In Keski-Suomen Sanomat paper)

Our coach gave us pills and said, eat those, thats for your. Makes better.
Sinuhe said that pills we got before game and after. And also he said that make heart to pump faster.


And Cherpanov died to heartattack??

Maybe they also eat pills?
