I don't know if this is the right place to ask this but I cannot find the answer to my question anywhere, I was just wondering what differences the difficulties make in this game. I have no idea haha, thanks.

You mean you can change the difficulty, how is that?

You can't.
Only thing I can think of is attribute masking. In the tips it says "To make your game a bit easier turn off attribute masking" or something along those lines. Other than that, I've never seen a difficulty setting in the game.

Fog of war is what you are thinking of Tasku I think. Then there is the blackout thing Stinson did awhile back where you could not see anyone's attributes. Only scout reports and stats...just like real life./

Must be quite a challenge to play with that thing you speak of batdad

I really have to try it. I have thought about it many times..that and non-real names with a fantasy draft...would be fun. Cept you would still know who was who from history I think. When regens came in though it would be real hard.

I suppose you'd have to rely on average ratings and your assistant GM alot

I did play with it for a while, and it was fun - almost like a completely different game.
But in the end I came back to seeing the attributes. Attributes don't tell the whole story anyway, so I might aswell look at them.

How would you know who to take in a fantasy draft with fake names and blacked out stats? You don't have scouting reports or anything else to base your picks on. The rest does sound interesting though.

The reason is the histories of the players. I would not be choosing the players for any team...Colorado would still have all of its players from the dbase, just with their fake names. By having the fantasy draft mix em up, it makes it a little (just a little) more not sure who is who. But the histories would still be there, so I am sure I would figure out who was who fast...

I totally understand the reason you would want to do a fantasy draft. I just couldn't see how you would base your picks.

Stats...goals assists points....history etc. Really all you would have. Makes it tres hard to get a proper mix.

Maybe we should have a TBL challenge with the fog of war enabled.

Fog of war is supposed to be enabled in challenges. Without it, you would know the attributes of all players in the game, no matter age or league. The blackout is an addon from Stinson, that maybe we could use some time.

ok, the thing i was talking about that i always assumed was the difficulty setting was when you create your GM you have to pick your past experience, and you can be anything from rec hockey player to hall of famer... what does that do? i assumed it was difficulty setting

With better reputation you will get better jobs, obviously. It's not a difficulty setting per se, but in some cases good rep can make your career easier, for sure, if you're looking to play that kind of game.

Actually the player histories will not be there, which is a great thing. You can completely start from scratch.
Also, not every player - it seems - will be simply recycled with a different name. Most will, but lots of others seem to be made up completely by the CPU. Maybe is has to do with the fact that some very good players (i. e. Crosby, Ovechkin) are so good at a very young age that they don't fit into the ususal development model of the game and their attributes are changed accordingly.
I'm not sure, but In dozens of those games I've never had problems spotting Kovalchuk II or Heatley II, but never found a Crosby II or Ovechkin II.
