How are some non-stat based awards calculated?

For instance:
Perron is a 1st over all draft pick, put up 100 pts playing on the second line and has potential out the behind...
Schwarz is marginal, played second/third pairing and while he put up good stats, all of my defensemen did...
Perron lead all rookies in goals, assists, points and avg rating...
yeah?

Without knowing anything about your team and looking at those numbers, the choice makes sense to me. 57 points would probably lead the league in points from a defenceman, and he's got good plus minus numbers too. Comparing centre to D-man isn't as simple as looking at the points totals.
But I've no idea how the game calculates it lol!

Well, like I said, he was actually 3rd on my team in defense points and about 7th in the league.
I understand completely the difference between Defensemen and Offensemen, but Perron was just plain dominating, Schwarz really wasn't a gamebreaker... and all of then stats that the game would consider, they rely heavily on Av. R.... and as you can see, for a rookie, Perrons was awesome.

Often a factor that I have noticed is who had a better start to the season! They often overate players when chosing the Calder if they have had a great start!
