I can't believe I could find the answer to this by searching, sorry if I missed it.

What are the rules on whether or not a player has to clear waivers to go down to the AHL side, and what determines if the re-entry waivers apply? I know its got something to do with age and experience, but does anyone know the exact figures?

Ok I just found this in the guide...

15.3 Exemption from the waivers and Waiver Draft
A number of players are exempt from the waivers and Waiver Draft:

* Skaters who sign their first NHL contract at the age of 18 are exempt for five years and 19 year old skaters are exempt for four years. Such exemption is reduced to three years once such players have played more than ten games in the NHL.
* Goalies who sign their first NHL contract at the age of 18 are exempt for six years and 19 year old goalies are exempt for five years. Such exemption is reduced to four years once such players have played more than ten games in the NHL.
* A player of at least 20 years old who plays his first NHL game has three years of exemption from the waivers and Waiver Draft.

-------

Is that all still correct for the 07 game as thats including waiver draft etc that was from the 05 game.

re-entry waiver

Hi all,
I have a problem with re-entry waiver so I decided to add a thread for this, as it has insufficient coverage here.
I found out an interesting web with re-entry waiver explanation: http://www.nhlscap.com/waivers.htm
Now, what is my problem in game. I manage Colorado Avalanche and want to recall Per Ledin from farm team to NHL team. So I click on "Recall to Avalanche" and get a message telling, that he has to clear re-entry waiver. I agree and after some time I get a message that he cleared the re-entry waiver. But nothing changed! ](*,) He is still in farm team and the only choice I have is to recall him to Avalanche again. Then I get the message about re-entry waiver eligibility again. I don't have him on NHL roster, I don't even have a chance to call him to Avalanche now. Just repeat the re-entry waiver again and again...
Does anyone know, how I can succeed to recall him to NHL team after he clears the re-entry waiver?
Thanks.

This is a well known scenario. You have to call him up, click reentry waiver okay, and call him up agian immediately. Just the way it works.

Closing thread.

The only exception I can think of is that the new CBA eliminated the waiver draft.

Here's a question: Is there a "window" of time (in game) that players can be sent down or brought up regardless of their waiver status? And if so when does it begin & end. I've got burned once or twice by sending a waiver-eligible player down to the AHL during camp and IIRC, he got stuck there via re-entry waivers. I've been meaning to test this, but haven't got around to it and before I do, would like to know if anyone knows. Thanks

Good question. I think the answer is "No" but I'd like to know for sure. There are a lot of guys who might be 23 or 24 on my AHL team that I would like to bring up for my NHL camp but I don't because I'm figuring they'll have to pass through waivers at some point.

If I have an old guy I want down, or a waiver eligible guy (I always check my waiver eligibility before) I send him down during training camp. Curtis Sanford is my latest example. If I wait too long after camp I have to waive him, and sometimes I do wait (to see if others have G on waiver wire) but mostly I send him down early to avoid waiving. If I lose him on reentry, I lose him. They do have to go through at some point, and well...I dunno which is the best way to go. Sanford is actually the first old guy I have kept around after I know he ain't making the team. Usually I don't sign em, and usually I trade em.

There's a time period during/before training camp were waivers don't apply. There's also a window in june where waivers don't apply afaik.

Hearing the trade talk regarding Kessel going to the Preds with the rights to Radulov being in the mix. Since he is still technically under contract to Nashville and jumped ship, does the waivers clock stop? If it doesn't, it could be a loophole for late-bloomers or college players to get around 2-way pay. Example: Johnny Winger finishes his NCAA career at 22 years old, signs his first pro contract and plays 1 year in the minors. He then gets a better deal in the KHL and plays 2 seasons there. If the clock doesn't stop, when he comes back to North America and required to honor the rest of his NHL contract, he is then eligible for waivers in order to go back to the AHL. This could possible force the team to keep him in the NHL for full salary or risk losing him for nothing.

Radulov is supposed to be an above average scoring talent and I'm not sure he'd make it through waivers.

If it is not on thier profile then they don't need to go on waivers, they can just be sent down to the AHL/ECHL/other minor league affiliate. Without having an NHL save game open right now, I'm fairly certain it is the first in the list of options you have with the player.

If you have the option to send him down then he doesn't need to be on waivers.

Not really... The younger player have the options to send them down to several farm team, but the 25+ years olds need to clear waivers. They have the release/loan/buyout options, and all of them needed to clear waivers, but I don't know how could I send them to waivers, cause here it's not allowed.

The option should say 'Place on waivers' if it's not there then I'm not sure what else to tell you.

Then he's already on waivers or is exempt. Why are you trying to do with the player? Also what league are you playing in?

NHL 06-07 standard. I have 28 players on the roster at opening day, I'd like to play with more young guys (who are capable to send down without waivers), so I have to send down some waiver eligible players...e

Are you still at training camp?
There is a time during camp that players can be sent down without clearing waivers

The camp is over. I'm on the first gameday. (But I couldn't find waiver option to these players earlier so.)

Just try assigning him to minors without waiving. I will bet dollars to donuts, that in spite of age he is not eligible for waivers and can just be sent down. If I am wrong I owe you a donut.

But it will tell you you have to waive him if you try and send him down and he needs to be waived.

I thought I understood how waivers work but I guess I don't.

It's mid-September before training camp, Playing NHL, while also managing my AHL and ECHL farm teams.

I just signed a few young guys, no NHL experience at all. Wanted them to play for my AHL team this year.

I can only send one of them down there. The others the only option I have is to send them back to juniors.

What am I not understanding here?

Also, will they develop about the same in Juniors as they would in the AHL or ECHL?

I think they need to be 20 to get the option to go to AHL. Otherwise you can only send them back to juniors.
