EHM The Blue Line

Hi all,

After watching the Juniors this year, I have the itch to play with a QMJHL team.

1 - As I began playing, I noticed alot of teams were going after some UFAs that I would have never found in a regular search. Are there any particular leagues that I should be scouting around my region? Also, are there any filter settings to only include players that I can sign (within my region).

2 - This is more of a general CHL rule, but how does an Ontario born player become eligilbe to be signed by QMJHL/WHL teams? Does he have to go undrafted?

3 - Is it possible to be asked to be the GM for the World U20, or any other tournaments?

Well the best leagues for scouting UFA's would probably be the Maritime Junior A Hockey League and the Quebec Junior AAA Hockey League. Both leagues are Junior A ranks. You can find some decent 18 and 19 year-olds in there that can help out your team. But I recommend looking around before training camp, as most of the better players get contract offers early.

And for the World Juniors you can apply for the job if theres an opening but if theres already a GM for the team, then they won't ask you.

If a players rights are released by the Ontario League (or other Canadian League) team that owns them, or if the player is released by his Ontario League team he is then eligible to sign wherever he wants in any of the three Canadian Hockey Leagues. I believe if they go undrafted you can sign them as well...

1 - Are there any filer settings that I can apply when searching for Ontario players (if I am playing QMJHL) that will only display players eligible to sign with me? Can the same filter be applied to my scout?

2 - Do players that are committed to playing US College Hockey, or International hockey ever change their mind? I'm wondering if I should try to draft one or tow of these players.

3 - This leads a bit from Question #2...but are there any tips to lure players that do not want to leave International teams to come to the NHL/CHL?

Yes, when searching look at OHL protected areas or filter it to players based in the OHL

I wouldn't take a player who wants to go to college too high in the draft, since most times they will never play Major Junior. I look at them like foreign players. There's always a chance that they will get signed by an NHL team then returned to juniors. If you have their rights, they'll be on your squad.

I do wish that more college-bound players would at least consider playing for a major junior squad before they enter the college ranks, but that is for an different thread

Players who are headed to college don't play Major Junior Hockey because of the NCAA eligibility rules. Any player who plays Major Junior Hockey is ineligible to play in the NCAA. (This is why in real life Kyle Turris played an extra year for the Burnaby Express instead of signing up with the Vancouver Giants, who owned his CHL rights).

How about international players? Will they ever change their minds and come to the NHL/CHL? Do you need to throw more money at them?

You truly do learn something everyday, as I did not know that.

Is Turris the best example to use? He could have seen just as high a level of play in Vancouver as he did in the 36 games he played for Wisconsin before jumping to Phoenix, right? He would have definitely seen a higher calibre of hockey in the WHL over the BCHL.

Turris may not be the best example, merely one of the most famous recent ones (Jonathan Toews, whose rights were owned (I believe) by the Seattle Thunderbirds is another recent one). Also last year's first round pick, twenty-ninth overall by the Atlanta Thrashers Daulton Lavalle (I can't remember how to even spell it ) chose to play a season for the St. Catharines Jr. B Falcons, rather than play in the OHL so he could go to Michigan. And trust me...the Golden Horseshoe Junior B League is about a hundred million steps down from the OHL.

Paul Kariya is likely the best example. But yeah, Turris may be close to that.

Yes. There is a kid in the OHL right now, that was released from WHL, and no team decided to pick him up. Its a goalie.

However, it hardly EVER happens. Like maybe once every 10 years.

As far as europeans go the only way they will sign with a CHL Junior team is either they arent signed by a european team or they have a contract of 1,500 thats the only way i have found been able ot sign a european player to a junior team.

In the WHL it says you can start up to 2 underage players... but how do you sign them so you can play them? Is this impossible?

CHL Import draft---Draft them, then try and sign them.

Dont quote me on it but i think you have to wait till they turn 16 first in ehm i believe..

at 15 in real life they get a max 5 games in the league. Until there season expires. This cannot be done in EHM at this time, so they cannot play or sign until 16.

I prefer the dub, but I will start a new game with a team from the OHL as the Q is retarded, as I was playing the Memorial Cup, I noticed the Shawinigan Cataractes had only 9 signed players, none of which were goalies, and Rimouski was no different. At least Owen Sound had a full roster(which I destroyed 7-1).
Funny thing though, I always play poorly against Q teams.

I like playign as OHl as soon as u draft a player he can play for your team. whl they have to sit out for a season before they can be signed to your team every time i go to play as a whl team i have a change of heart and go and play as a OHL team...

I'm also starting a CHL franchise (for the first time) and I noticed that my players seem to get very tired if i have my practice set up like I would for an NHL team. Is this normal for the younger players and i should just reduce the intensity?

What point of the season is it? I've always had my players get really tired in late July and August, but they recover around the star of training camp.

It was right at the beginning of the season, but whatever the reason was it stopped doing it after a week or so.
