EHM The Blue Line

Hey everyone, i'm sorry if this has already been discussed somewhere but i did a search and came up empty. When you get an Update from your AHL Affiliate on some of your players down there, do their suggestions of what role the players can play purtain to the AHL or NHL? Like for example im the Yotes and the update from San Antonio says Al Montoya can be a starter right now. Does that mean he can be an AHL starter or an NHL starter? If you are confused just let me know and i'll post a screenshot.

I think it means he can be a starter for you. Same thing as scouts, they give their player evaluation comparing it to your team, not the team the player is currently in.

Not that I would blindly trust them, though.

I don't trust this report at all. Every time I have used this as a guide for who to bring up, they almost always grossly underachieve. You're better off using your own best judgment, IMHO.

Yeah, they're usually pretty off. There are some guys that they say "could play 1st line minutes" for my team and the only way I can see that is if they mean that they've got the stamina for it. They certainly don't have the skill. Honestly, I think it's best to scout your players, look at what they do, and come to your own conclusions.

I've always taken the report to show where they fit on the farm team as the reports tend to match what the farm team scouts have to say (if you run your own farm team). So if the farm report says "could play first line minutes right now" it means that player could play on the first line for the farm team and not the big club.

Yeah thats what i was thinking, so i had a few different scouts scout my farm team to get a report on Montoya's development and all signs point to him being ready to make the jump. The consensus among my scouts is that he is like Vesa Toskala or Kari Lehtonen. I'm not sure whether to take that as a compliment or a disapointment. His stats are actually really good IMO. But im not entirely sure with him tho.

I played with the Coyotes for several seasons and had the same report on Montoya. He turned out really well, outplaying his ratings I felt, and outplaying Bryzgalov enough that I could let Bryzgalov go as a free agent. Montoya was a little inconsistent but for the cost involved, a solid #1 netminder.
I use those reports as a guide, maybe the player shouldn't play top line minutes but should be good enough to get introduced to the NHL. I left Bodker in the AHL for 2 seasons and he's scoring now, playing 4th line and some powerplay.

Yeah so far in the season Montoya is playing great in the AHL. Started the season with FOUR, FOUR straight shutouts.
