Since the threads about the Challenge rules are locked here's a thread that anyone can ask questions about anything relating to the Challenges.

I've also posted some 'FAQ'-like questions and answers to myself here for people when I think of something I should add about the Challenges.

Yes, I have a question... what is the deal with those "Sorting... don't mind me  " messages at the end of the announce threads?

 If you must know... I had to post to each thread to get them to display in the correct order...

Thanks for the welcome, just one more question for tonight.

If I acquire, say, Coloardo's 2007 2nd round draft pick, would I be able to trade that pick? I relize tradeing your own future draft picks isn't allowed, but this isn't exactly the same thing.

Hmmmm ..... tricky question ...... i would think no but I am not the one deciding so you should better wait for an answer from Minstrel

The rule is that you can only trade away a draft pick for the upcoming Draft. However, you can acquire any draft picks you like.

One think to keep in mind is how long you'll be playing the game for. Some users see these as long term games and so acquiring draft picks for Drafts far in the future may be a good idea. Whereas if you plan to only play the Challenge for one or two seasons then there would be no real point in acquiring draft picks later than the first or second season Draft.

A little side note: The Challenge competitions run for two seasons (you may choose to compete in only the first season). After that, there is the possibility for the Challenge to continue running if there is sufficient interest. Even if the Challenge finishes after the second season, everyone can still discuss how their game is going (e.g. about how Crosby has retired after your 30th season, or how Lemiuex is still kicking ass at the age of 75, etc. :D).

Can I add in a few transfer in the database? Like:
"FREE_AGENT_MOVE" "Mathieu" "Schneider" "Detroit Red Wings" 20 8 2005 3300000 2
and
"FREE_AGENT_MOVE" "Ilya" "Kovalchuk" "Atlanta Thrashers" 20 8 2005 6400000 5

I think it's best you don't because otherwise people are playing with different databases - Sorry! ;)

Arch is right, the only db changes allowed in Challenges is an unfaking (if available at the time... there is none at this time).

As for the draft picks you can trade for a future pick but you couldn't then re-deal that pick because it would still not be a pick from the upcoming draft... :dunno:

To answer the question in another thread (and I added the info to the announcement thread too) about how long Challenges last:

Recording of stats will be closed five weeks from the date that the first Challenge team records their games 60-82 stats.

I will be posting in the near future the official scoring details as well as a guide to posting screenshots with our new system. There's quite enough text here to digest for now so I'm delaying on those for a while :-p

What do we do now, as the new patch has been released? :dunno:

Can we use it?

Hmmm... well starting the Challenge was bound to make the patch come out quicker, just like getting your car washed increases the chance of rain

We decided we'd waited long enough given the uncertainty of a release date. :dunno: We'll certainly use it for next Challenge. Let's go with the majority on this I guess. I'll post a poll :tiptap:

Sorry for the confusion regarding the non-edit sistuation. Yes, this forum is an will reamin no-edit. More details in the thread in Announcements/Feedback. :nerd:

Since we are starting to add in people's 21-40 stats I figured I'd mention a bit about the oddities that are the GLR recording process. As I've mentioned it is not exactly created to do what we are doing with it ;) but it works well enough, it just looks a bit odd. The importance of recording your stats only for each set of twenty is that the top chart will add together each 'game' you have played. So after game forty is entered it will show you total how many wins each player has had for example.

Now, the individual stat boxes below record every instance of the stat individually. So you will have four separate entries in each box. And yes... they will all have a date attached to them  Those dates mean nothing really but the later the day, month and date, the later on in the Challenge it represents.

Each day equals a section. So if you want to look back and see whose player had the most goals for section one (games 1-20) look to see who has the highest slot on the table for a 'Sunday' score. 8-)

Game Dates and what they mean:

SUN 02 OCT 2005 = Games 1-20
MON 14 NOV 2005 = Games 21-40
WED 21 DEC 2005 = Games 41-60
FRI 27 JAN 2006 = Games 61-82

Oh, rubbish...I seem to have lost my stats recording sheet. :( What should I do? :dunno: I've looked everywhere around the computer, but can't find it. Guess I'm out of the challenge. :(

Stats recording sheet? You mean this thing? Can't you just download it again?

If it's because you've lost all your stats, you can figure it out be adding up all the stats you've posted so far - that will give you your totals up until the last segment. :)

I've tried doing that, but it gets all screwed up - like 22 wins in 20 games. :)

Maybe you can find it with "news eyes" a bit later when you come back to check for it again? Obviously we haven't gotten the governmental clearance for spy cams to record everyone playing the Challenges yet, so I can be of limited help :dunno:

The two things I know result in paper mislocation here:

When I do something silly like try to 'clean' my computer area. If you've done that and thrown out a lot of papers you might what to check to make sure you didn't toss it.

It slid into the pages of a manual, magazine or newspaper that I then carried into another room...

Check around again in a bit, hope ya find 'em.

More on the GLR recording system

Remember each 'game' represents a block of EHM results. If you click on the date of the individual 'games' it will show you the stats people posted just for that game. This way you can see the individual stats the make up the 'Player' chart which records our overall team stats of wins, losses, etc.

So if you want to see who posted the most wins in 21-40 click on the MON 14 NOV 2005 link in the 'Results' chart at the top of the page and it will take to the 'Individual Stats' listing.

Remember:

SUN 02 OCT 2005 = Games 1-20
MON 14 NOV 2005 = Games 21-40
WED 21 DEC 2005 = Games 41-60
FRI 27 JAN 2006 = Games 61-82

The Official Scoring post has been added (it's #4) :tiptap: but won't appear as new I'd guess since it was moved over from the Admin forum where we were working on them originally. :dunno: You can see the system in action and how it all went down over at the GLR site now for Challenge 1.1.

Just a reminder: we've provided every TBL user with their own Image Gallery whihc you can use to upload any game screenshots/images you want to use on the forum. This of course includes the requied screenshots for Challenges.

For all the info you'll need see the sticky thread in the TBL Announcements and Feedback Forum regarding use of the new Gallery system for the complete details.

You can also use your Gallery for posting 'caps of awards your players have won, great games, etc. in the Challenge discussion threads (but please post links to them, not post them as images).

I just added in the requirement of a Schedule screencap for the use of verification of playoff wins. The Announce threads have been updated to note the change. I forgot to mention we needed that one.

For the Playoff Bonus Points verification screencap: in addition to recording the number of playoff wins your team put together this is a screecap of your date-by-date team schedule (Roster -> Schedule) showing the bottom portion which will show the scores for all of your playoff games.

Spreadsheeters: Don't forget to report your number of playoff wins with your games 61-82 segment. :tiptap:

To clarify the playoffs screenshot, this is the screen I mean from my Washington team:

Playoffs Schedule

I am going with this screen because it is accessable even years after the fact by clicking the arrows in the upper right corner and it's more compact than the other screens.
