Fantasy Tool

I was wondering if anyone is interested in creating a tool that completely randomized players attributes/potential/personality/consistency and maybe height/weight/names(although you can already use fake names) similar to mne2's free agent tool. After you used this tool you can do fantasy draft or run the free agent tool to make for a different kind of game. My thought was that it would make for a fun game because you would not know what to expect and you would be able to run the tool before every new game so all games would be completely different. It would be a scouting intensive game as you would not be able to guess how good he is based on his name. Well, let me know your thoughts. I don't think it would be too hard to make (and add a whole new feel to the game) but I'm not a programmer.

I think that's a really good idea.

EHM already has a way to play without real player names, but unfortunately, it doesn't do much other than give current players new names. What really needs to be done, is scramble everything, like you propose.

I think it's a great idea, it's just how.

This is pretty simple to do - i did contemplate it early on during one of the games but just never got around to doing it

It would be cool if that tool would also change team and league values to 0. Then you could rename teams and start playing in completely new world! Though it would be good to have a chance to disable that feature if you'd like.

Well if you ever get really bored mne2 you could throw one together. [-o<

What about adding this as a feature to the pre-game editor, instead of a one-time edit?

'Cause A9L3E's idea might be useful as well, but like he said, it would be better if it was optional. Perhaps add some functions to the pre-game editor that allow you to set various things to 0?

I'd love to have a totally randomized database and then use it for a challenge. We'd all be starting from a clean slate. That would be so cool!

How 'totally random' would you want it? i.e. Players of CA of 1 in NHL teams?

I would think that the CAs of the players should be appropriate for their league. IIRC, there is a min/max range for CA's in a league (with a few exceptions). That would probably work best, just to keep the league's balanced. Just my opinion but the whole "hockey world" should function the same it's just that none of the existing players will be there and it won't just be the names changed like the game offer now. It would be different names, different abilities, same world. Almost like as if we were looking at the league 30 years in the future. You wouldn't recognize anyone.

Just simulate game 30 years in future. ;)

No thanks! :-o

Plus, if we wanted to use that for a challenge, we'd have to have everyone download a big saved game. If it's something that can be done with a starting database, it will be easy to distribute.

I think it should be made possible to have CA 1 player in NHL. You could always buy him out or something. Besides, if fantasy tool will also randomize club and competition values then NHL wouldn't necessarily be the world's number one league.

My original thought was to use this in conjunction with the fantasy draft so it wouldn't matter, but now that I think of it we would run into current contract problems (current contract amount and length would stick).
Some ideas are
1. The tool would make everyone (over 18 or so) a prospect so you could still use the fantasy draft option and sign the players you want.
2. The tool makes everyone a free agent or use in conjunction with your current FA tool. You couldn't do a fantasy draft but it's probably the easiest option.

Some other thoughts. I guess reputation would have to get reset to zero ( not sure if it affects anything). If randomizing height & weight maybe a set range for player hight and weights (Gionta size to maybe Chara size).

If this were a separate tool from the editor, why not try to make these things customizable? Make it an option to totally randomize the hockey world, where the NHL has a low rep but the Swedish Elite league is the top league in the world. But also allow the current league reps to stay the same. Also make options to set min-max CAs for various leagues. Some folks would want everyone as free agents. Other people might want the teams already filled. The one thing I can see that might be tricky if the teams are already filled is salary. There would have to be some sort of calculations made based on the team's budget and the ranking of the player's CA on that team to determine what their salary is.

Any updates on this :joy: I know mne2 said "after summer" but seeing as how I just got my computer back, I'm an optimist and need my EHM fix! And this seems like it would be a lot of fun.

Well now that the EHM 2004 Pre Game Editor is done you never know. :-k

I just started coming back to the site in hoping this might get a bit more attention :-D. It'd definitely help keep me sane come exam time.

How exactly would you go about doing this? One of my buddies is pretty good with programming but doesn't play this, if anyone has any general outline on how you'd accomplish this maybe it'd be enough for him to work with (since I don't personally know how I'd approach it).

I'd really be up for this kind of database too, I'm bored of certain players always winning etc.

Going to bump this. Any interest several months later on putting together a tool like this?
