Teams demoting enforcers and aggressive players

Heya folks, I've ran into some issues here from the game engine im assuming and I think I need some advice. Why on earth does the teams demote enforcers and any players that play a tough and tumble game during and after the season ?
Every season and during the season I am forced to babysit all the teams in the NHL and bring up players that are demoted for no apparent reason such as Boogaard, Janssens, Orr, Hordichuk, Parros, heck even checking forwards such as players like Draper, Tootoo, Abdelkader, Burish, Brown. The Teams decided "hey, lets sign a bum thats on the verge on retirement or bring up a player that is simply not even fit for the NHL to take they're spot on the roster".
If I don't do this the whole league would look like a European league in my opinion and the teams rosters would look like the RedWings. I've tried using the editor and boosting stats a tad but I usually try and hit the Team Rep, World Rep and whatnot to try and make the player a lil more popular so he keeps his spot on the roster unless there is absolutley no room for him there or they are using that spot for a rookie to gain expierence.
Does anyone else have this problem ? How do you all combat this ? Is there something I need to do like "retire" or "release" players just to decrease the size of the NHL rosters ?
Thanks
