Free Agent Utility

Hi,
Just wondering if someone out there has created a database that has all the teams without any players signed? Kind of like the fantasy draft but then no contracts would be there either. Is it possible to find a db like this or can you not have 0 players?
Thanks

Grab the free agent utility. It's not that fun though, at least in my experience- unless you're playing in the lower leagues.

So does it affect all your games or how does it work? I don't want to boot it up and make all my games screwed

It's been a really long time since I used it, but I'm pretty sure it can only be done pre-game. Load a database into the utility, run the utility, and then save the database. Then start your game with your new free agents database.

Ah, okay, read the readme but it's saying it can't overwrite this nonplayer.dat file... I backed up everything but it doesn't seem to have affected anything.
Edit: NVM, works thanks guys

Can I get a quick primer on how this works? I know little about using PCs, so maybe I am doing it wrong. Does it automatically load the active database in the database folder? I set the utility to run and it goes through the motions, but seems to sit endlessly on "Saving Player Rights File".

The FA Utility works on whatever DB is the mainfolder.
> Sports Interactive\NHL Eastside Hockey Manager 2007\data
not
> Sports Interactive\NHL Eastside Hockey Manager 2007\data\[whatever]
If you want it on a different DB, you have to copy it into the main folder first, then copy back.

It doesn't work with me either. You have to run it with a computer that has XP.

Oh, lovely...
Does anyone have a database that has all players set to FA? the newer Lidas roster updates would be ideal.

Are you 100% sure it doesn't work with Windows 7? I find this very surprising.
It might be worth trying compatibility mode and using the 'Run as Admin' option in Windows 7.

Yeah, I'm sure.. sadly that's not even working.. heart breaking.

Could someone use this and upload the newest Lidas roster with all players as FA? I'd be very grateful.

Awwww man. Hiitsdj seems to be correct, I can't make the utility work in WIndows 7. Not with Run As Admin, and not even with an older Compatibility Mode (like Windows 2000 , XP, or even 98).
I've been working on a fantasy sort of DB where the NHL and AHL teams are all replaced by defunct/past teams and all actual franchises would be inactive. I was going to pluck an older DB to use as the player basis, set them all to UFA's, and then not use real player names and turn Fog of War on, so I could have a totally new experience with teams, players, etc.
Guess I'll need to find another way around this now, eh? I guess I could manually release everyone but, yikes... that'd suck.
It's really too bad there's not a player name masker utility or something. The randomized DB's on the original freeware were terrible, but they also could be fun because you get tired of the same old players all the time. ANd it made for more of a challenge. Was looking to try to recreate that with 2007. Ah well... we'll see what I come up with.

I have on my (long) list of things to do to write a new free agent utility. It wouldn't be that hard to do. I was thinking as an additional feature some sort of randomisation of the CA/PA attributes.
It's just a case of finding some spare time write it.

I actually did that with all players on an NHL team.. haven't got around to other leagues yet, personally I only play NHL so thats all that mattered to me

Well I eventually found time to write a free agent utility (over a year later)!

If you load the database in the Updater (
here's the link), there is an option on the Database tab to make players and/or non-players free agents.

Does it include the removal of rights?

No it doesn't. That's a very good point. I'll fix it.
