Hi everybody, I'm new around these parts
I have a peculiar problem with EHM...I am playing with 2.1.3 applied and all, and game after game I run into one the same issue. Namely, during preseason, I usually design a tactic and stick with it, easily winning my exhibition games and scoring in buckets. But when the real deal starts, I am getting hacked into tiny pieces because I averagely allow 50+ shots per game
I have no clue why is this happening. I swapped tactics like Paris Hilton does hair stylists and yet every time I am outshot by 20+. Against Pens at home while playing with Thrashers, I actually allowed
61 (sixty-one !?!) shot on my goal. Oddly enough, this seems to happen only when I'm playing in the NHL, when I played with Jesenice in Slovenian league I breezed through the schedule and won the Interleague after the playoffs.
I appreciate any sort of help you guys could offer.

Your best bet is too read the play-by-play of the games and find out whats going wrong. Most likely its the defense either playing too high up, or giving it away too much.

Hm...
I have defense all set on default settings more-less. I think my defensive lines have "hard" for "normal" and power boardplay.
I'll give it a read.

The problem isn't necessarily from your defense; it could also be that your forwards make a lot of bad passes that lead to turnovers or can't sustain pressure in the opposing zone leading to your opponent being in your end blazing away for long periods of time. Defenses aren't nearly as tight in the preseason so given more time in the zone your team gets the job done but when the heat is on they get passes intercepted, miss the net and make turnovers.
Part of that assumed problem could be that you don't have your passers set to pass and your shooters set to shoot so some turnovers are from snipers trying passes they shouldn't make and the missed nets are because passers are firing pucks on net.
If you haven't done so you should read The EHM Guide too; there's a link to it in the quicklinks at the top border of the forum screen.

Thank you both for the tips. I'll try and see if I can sort this out.

I have a problem related to this. In every game I play, whether the coach or myself are in charge of the tactics, I have very high number of give-aways. It's usually in the double digits while my opponents' is in the single digits. I can't figure out what's causing this and what I can do to stop it. It doesn't matter what team I'm using either.

The giveaways in the game are bad passes, whereas the takeaways are the player literally taking the puck from them (not just interfering a pass), if you don't forecheck much your opponent will almost always have less giveaways than you do.

Well two thinks I can think of is make sure only good skaters/stickhandlers are allowed to carry the puck. Also make everyone who has a pass stat below 16-17ish only makes simple passes. You may also want to try amping up 'defensive skills' in practices, but I'm not sure if that will have an effect
EDIT; Borlag is probably right, its probably bad passing.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll see if these help.

E5150_ca, I remember Riz clarifying that over at the SI boards awhile ago, it's definitely passes. You can check it yourself by looking at the stats. If they'd be simply giveaways from your guys, then the opponent would have equal amount of takeaways, this is simply not the case.

I tinkered, but still the same results. I got swept off the ice at home versus Pens - 21-6 in shots, only in first quarter. Giveaways are not a problem, hell, I have an average +/- 1 or 2 when compared to my opposition.
Simple passes are default with every player, and only players who have shoot bias are Kovalchuk, Bondra and Hossa.
I am thinking I am screwing something up with practice though. I will have to tinker with that, I'm gonna start a new game with a stronger team to practice this a bit.

Check you defensemens personal instructions. Set most of them if not all of them not to join the rush.
Sounds as if you use quite an attacking tactic perhaps I do this in my current game with edinburgh caps and have been doing well so far. I tried using the same tactics with my ducks and had some good results but it did leave me quite open and you will be punished for that a lot more in teh NHL than in Slovenia or UK.
Also perhaps check the fitness of your defencemen during games. I find that where I have 3 lines of defencemen at least one of them will get tired during teh game so i may put him down to 3rd line and take him off the special teams perhaps halfway during the 2nd period though not always just when its needed. I will bring them back up during the third.
