do you coach the team?

Post by JamieLeeWV »

Pretty new to EHM so was wondering if its the 'norm' for people here to coach the team? obviously being the gm of a team gm's do not coach a side thats the job of the head coach. So i am not too sure whether to use the option of coaching the team or leaving it to my head coach like real life?

I would guess most people here prefer to coach the team themselves so they can edit lines tactics etc?

is the game pretty boring if you leave coaching duties to your head coach and just do gm duties?

and can you still watch out games if your head coach is coaching?

I used to always coach but found with the length of the NHL season it easier to just GM. As long as you check you have tactics set the way you want and properly analyse the stats of your last few games then you could be fine and maybe just coach in big games like getting into play offs or the play offs themselves.

One of my fave things in this game is to make my own lines. So I do that, always. I also decide what tactics to use. So, I guess you could say that I coach the games myself. I rarely do any changes mid-game though. I used to do that, but felt it was too much micromanagement for me.

ok thanks guys.

Only reason i ask is i started as the Devils and tried to make the devils lines as they are in real life(including PP, PK lines etc), but i lost pre season games like 6-2, 8-3 and 4-1.

I let the coach pick the lines to see if it had an affect and it did, only Kovalchuk was on the 2nd line, Henrique was on the 4th line and Boulton was on the PK lol.

I won my first 3 league games with these lines. But i want Parise Kovy and Henrique on the top line, and i want Parise, Elias, Henrqiue as part of the PK like in real life, and i want Kovy on the point on PP like real life. Maybe i should use the stats editor to increase the PK ability if thats possible i dunno?

I like the realism of GM-only, but I always feel very disconnected from the team, and it's noticeably more boring for me; A lot of "watching", not much "doing".

As for watching your games while GM-only, you can do this by clicking the "Not Viewing" button. You'll see this button on your league's schedule screen, located under your team's matchup. When you click it, it'll change to "Viewing", and when you continue, you'll be taken to the game.

The game would be boring like hell if I couldn't coach. I always coach my teams. However, now that I have less time the mid-game adjustments are done in the playoffs only

You'll find that a lot of teams have their tough guy/enforcer on the PK. For the most part, they always have a high Positioning skill thus making them good penalty killers.

Doesn't Kovalchuk play on the left mid-boards on the PP to go for the big one timer after the cyciling by Parise and Zidlicky?

I always coach my team. I like this because you can do your own lines.
