Small problems with network game

I just started playing about 3 months ago and I got a friend hooked so we started a 3 man league just to get used to the game.

We got through the connection problems thanks to all the great info we found in these forums (thanks to all who help). We still have a couple of little problems though that you may have found solutions too but after searching the forums repeatedly I could not find any solution. I host the game but when my friend connects and starts to play he cannot change the highlight speed, he can as long as I dont start my game first, Once I have started my game the menu for puck trace-highlight-clock and play speed disappears, is this normal or is there a setting I got wrong? Also allthough he wrote his name correctly in the Add GM field it comes out as Unknown and his family name, is that something I did not set up properly also?

Now the other question I have is that I have read the forums and it seems that you have set up a set of gentleman rules so has to not take advantage of some of the AI's faults such as the ease with which you can get draft picks for 5 or 6 rubbish players. So how do you keep from taking advantage while still putting in some trades that are natural to make, such as getting rid of a prospect you are not sure of and wont need cause of the depth of your team, for a draft pick (reasonable trade that is done regularly in the NHL). What are the rules you have put in place to have a realistic game without duping the AI but while still making some trades that are equitable (realizing that the scouts can be totally, and usually are, wrong about their estimates(I traded away Kreiji to my buddy for a 3rd round draft pick following my scouts advise only to find out later the scout was dead wrong) heads rolled)?

Thanks in advance for your help.

IIRC if two users are playing games at the same time, the highlight speed is locked in order to prevent one user from seeing the final scores before the other. Also, the game has to recalculate the simulation whenever you make changes to your tactics in game. It has to keep all games and computers in sync I guess is the short answer.

As for gentlemen's rules, check out the Challenge Rules and Challenge Cheat Sheet in the Challenge Forum. They might provide suitable rules or at least some ideas. I'm unable to post the link from my phone, but you'll see it near the top of that forum.
