Just curious, what determines ice conditions? Will ice condition affect the play on the ice?

I've check most of the NHL arenas have good ice conditions but why arent they all in excellent conditions? Edmonton have good ice, while Los Angeles and Florida have poor ice, and it make sense. But Phoneix have excellent ice while Toronto only have only good ice? This troubles me! I think they should all be in excellent condition since its the NHL.

Not all NHL ice is in excellent condition, especially Dallas, Florida, and Los Angeles.

Surprisingly Tampa Bay, Phoenix, and Carolina have good ice crews and new arenas, which helps their ice alot.

If ice condition in this game is as big a factor as in real life, than it should affect play.

This is never something I've ver really taken a look on, but if I were to speculate, I would guess that better ice conditions give an advantage to 'speedy' teams whereas poor ice gives an advantage to goalies (not slideing so much) and defenseman like Hal Gill and Wade Belak, who try to intimidate a pylon.

That's the reason the Hurricanes are so good at home.

I think we have the best ice crew in the NHL. The lead guy sleeps outside the arena in an RV and shows up to work every morning at 3 or 4 AM.
