Fantasy Expansion

Post by M Ace »

I come up with a quite funny idea; Let's do a fantasy expansion in the NHL.

Myself I made a team named New Orleans Freedom and went to the southeast division in the NHL. I took Atlanta Thrashers place. Atlanta Thrashers I just putted in the Lower Leagues. I also created Memphis Tornados as affiliation in the AHL and EL Paso Renegades as affiliation in ECHL).

The sad thing is that ATL players will be up for grabs to sign by whoever wants to, but I live with that.

Then I made myself choose ONE player from the upcoming draft. And I choose Tyler Seguin to build around.

After that I didn't allowed myself to trade away future draft picks, just sign UFA's and claim players from waivers.

My opening night roster was;

#52. Mathieu Darche (Waivers from MON)-#9. Tyler Seguin (1st Overall Pick 2010)-#18. Carsen Germyn (Boughtout from CGY)
#12. Alexandre Giroux (Waivers from WAS)-#11. Kieth Aucoin (Waivers from WAS)-#49. Danny Fritsche (Signed from SYR as UFA)
#20. Bryan Smolinski (C) (Signed from Port Huron (IHL))-#15. Trent Whitfield (Claimed on Waivers from BOS)-#24. Ben Guite (Claimed of waivers from NAS)
#59. Robin Big Snake (UFA)-#28. Ajay Baines (UFA)-#27. Georges Laraque (Boughtout from MON)

#5. Chay Gennoway(UFA-#22. Jassen Cullimore(UFA)
#8. Erik Gustafsson(Boughtout from PHI)- #17. Sheldon Brookbank (Boughtout from ANA)
#4. John Erskine (Claimed of Waivers from WAS)-#89. Tyler Sloan (Waivers from WAS)

#31. Matt Zaba (Boughtout by NYR)
#30. Tom Lawson (UFA)

Could be fun if anybody else does a simular thing...

Please comeback with updates if you're intrested!

Thanks!

Wow, Robin Big Snake and Georges Larqaque on the same team! In real life that would be brutal!

Love the Smolinski pick up, right now he's saving the Flint Generals in the IHL playoffs.

Well, I needed a proven leader to be the captain. Hopefully Smoke can bring that element sO I can trade him to a contender at the deadline.

Next season will be a total diffrent roster, thinking about collecting and signing draftpicks and make Seguin captain.=D

just a quick question, how are teams added/replaced in the database and how can you do an "expansion" draft?

If you want to add an NHL team or any other team that is hardcoded into the game, you must remove a team from that league.

If you want to add a team in say Memphis, you'd have to remove the Phoenix Coyotes or whoever you want.

I'm not sure about the expansion draft however.

As I said I removed ATL to my NHL Retro League, but with Lidas db I would move them to Lower Leagues.

The same as for AHL where I moved Springfield, Abbotsford, Worcester & San Antonio to my custom AHL and putted in Memphis at San Antonios spot. With Lidas db I would have moved one team to ECHL and replaced another defunct ECHL team.;)

In ECHL I only removed the defunct Columbia Inferno and replaced them with El Paso.

You can play the game with to many teams in the NA leagues but it is nothing that I recommend because the db will be VERY unstable.

About the expansion. I have made a list as of today of wich players who probably would be availible, but that wasn't funny as I really wanted to start from scratch and rebuild a franchise with own drafted prospects and young UFA signings:D

I used the editor.;)

I just didn't make a real expansion with drafting from other teams because it is very hard to see wich players would be availible. I tried to make a list, but it all came down to build a new franchaise from completly scratch:)

Made a spalsh in juniors; Mathieu Darche (6,94) 2 points in 7 games and Carsen Germyn (6,33) 0 points in 7 games was demoted becuase I got tired of their low grades. I made a splended 1st line including;

#72. Derek Hulak (From Saskatoon Blades) - #9. Tyler Seguin - #29. Chris MacKinnon (from Kitchener Rangers)

Let's how it works=)

That's a line that you could build a franchise around, IF, they all stay healthy. You could keep them together for 6-7 years.

In Dec 2007 I'm ranked 12th in the Eastern Conference, Tyler Seguin was a runner up in the Calder race first season, managing 89 points (35g-54a) in his first season. Av. rating of 7,45. Matthew Duchene took the Calder with 88 points (25g-63a) although he had an av. rating of 7.61. I was deadlast in the eastern conference 12 points after Toronto. My first round picks 2007 was Sean Couthier from Drummondville Voltiguers and Adam Larsson from Skellefteå AIK. My line-up as of now is;

Derek Hulak-Tyler Seguin-Chris MacKinnon
Sean Couthier-Tony Mårtensson-Mattias Weinhandl
Jan Marek-Roman Cervenka-Sergei Mozyakhin
Robin Big Snake-Martin Hanzal-Georges Laraque

Chay Genoway-Adam Larsson
Erik Gustafsson-Sheldon Brookbank
Alan Mazur-Jon Awe (Both recently called up when they was av. ppg in the AHL. First season both had 87 points in the ECHL)

I agree. If you're just discussing a game you're playing with a fantasy expansion team you should be in THIS THREAD or maybe even a blog if you want your own area to discuss it. If you're developing a database, then it could have it's own thread in this section.

Wouldn't a database discussion, unless it was a BE A PLAYER challenge, go in the editing forum?

Yeah... for some reason I thought it was in the editing. Why is it in this forum?

I'm locking this one.

M Ace, if you think you've got a valid reason for this to be it's own thread, PM me and we can discuss unlocking the thread and putting it in the proper forum. Otherwise, use the thread indicated above.
