Why wait for 2.0 to develop when you can get the original that is already good?

I play as Philly.
8-) Gotcha. I thought you might be later on, he should be awesome at that point. In testing when guys were running games out to like 2030 I saw some career stats for him and Crosby that were down right silly :-o :notworthy:

I have just trade (during 2006 summer) Chad Kilger to Philly for a 2nd draft pick 2007.

Not a bad deal...

Maybe this wasn't my best trade ever, but it sure is the weirdest one.

As the Wild GM, I sent Pierre-Marc Bouchard to the 'Canes, which I was very happy about. :)

In exchange I received:

Forward Erik Cole
A 2nd round pick in 2006
A 3rd round pick in 2007
A 5th round pick in 2006
A 6th round pick in 2006
A 7th round pick in 2006

How crazy is that?!

I had some crazy stuff go down in my summer of 2006 as I traded in preparation for the draft in which I needed to add some picks... I traded rights to Jack Johnson to the Coyotes for:

2nd Round pick 2006 (theirs)
2nd Round pick 2006 (Edmonton's)
2nd Round pick 2006 (San Jose's)
4th Round pick 2006 (Minnesota's)
6th Round pick 2006 (theirs)
6th Round pick 2006 (Florida's)
7th Round pick 2006 (theirs)

:-o I just offered to them because I saw they had gathered all kinds of extra picks... it left them with just their 1st overall and a 3rd they traded for. I didn't dare counter it to try and get their 1st rounder :-p I was just like.... umm. Okay then we'll go with that

After not being able to trade up to the top four picks I instead traded down my 9th overall (they took Ben Maxwell) to Chicago for Cam Barker, Duncan Keith, two 6ths and a 7th. 8-)

In my Thrashers game,i've exchanged Scott Mellanby (39 years old, finishes UFA,playing on my 4th line for 925K$,and doesn't fit into my plans),a defensman prospect that doesn't fit into my plans (evaluated as a future depth player, and i got good scouts and really agree with them for this player) and the Dallas Stars 3rd round pick (acquired in a precedent trade) against the Boston Bruins 1st round!!! :joy:

I'm pretty proud of this one :-D

I totally forgot, but I signed Jaromir Jagr as a free agent in March 2009

He had 23 goals and 19 assists for 43 points in 16 games in the remainder of the regular season

In the playoffs he had 15 goals and 14 assists in 22 games for 29 points. He won the Conn Smythe as well.

I traded him later because I was unable to resign my younger kids.

I traded him to Dallas for Eric Messier who has been a defense specialist for me since the trade, winning the Selke trophy in the 2009-2010 Season

I don't know if this is the "best trade" but certainly my biggest.

First of all, I am Blackhawks and the trade was with Sharks:

Chicago gave up:
1st Draft 2006
1st Draft 2007
4th Draft 2007
Seabrook

San José gave up:
Joe Thornton

I have never had Thornton before but I hope he will do great with Calder and Bell on the wings.

Yeah, I'd love to see Calder and Bell on wings with Joe  With the other young D "in the pipe" with the organization Seabrook is especially in this deal more valuable as a trading chip based upon future value than current value to the team. And obviously the current value of Thortnon to the team is freakin' massive... Nice work

I'd say my best trade was the one where I sent Brashear to Colorado in return for Konowalchuk and a second round pick.

I havent needed to make any big moves on my Flames team, with Iginla and Amonte playing so well, but a player that far exceeded my expectations was Jamie Lundmark for a 4th rounder. In the space of a game he impressed me so much he moved from 4th to 2nd to 1st line! At nearly a point per game since getting him (its been around 20 or so since), i think he was an absolute steal for a 4th rounder.

I really havent made any move bigger than that, but its ok, im leading the conference by around 7 points at game 44 of the season.

Heres a bunch of trades that have been some of my best.
Jack Johnson
for
Patrick O'Sullivan, Roman Voloshenko, and David Backes.
Yea Sully was a bit of a loss but none of the players have developed much for the Canes. While Johnson was +21 in his first year with me and I managed to work out a 5yr 1.2 mil$ with a team option. So I have a nice cornerstone in place to build around.
Marek Svatos for Josh Harding + 3rd rounder. Harding still rarely plays for the Avs while Svatos was 2nd in Calder voting.
Jaromir Jagr for Miko Koivu, Danny Battochio(UFA to begin the game) and Wes Walz whos contract i wanted to dump anyways. Koivu just would not produce, his attributes were nice but no matter what i tried i couldnt figure him out. As for Jagr well he performed as always very well. I couldnt stop his production in any way. Point a game + for a team that was struggling to score.
Drew Stafford for Trea Higgins. Not really sure if Higgins was a pick of mine or a prospect to start the game but hes still not NHL ready and Staff scored 76 for me last season on 2nd and 3rd line duty.
Peter Mueller for Benoit Pouliot. Yea I rushed Pouliot into the league before he was ready. And with the leafs now hes a 100 point man but, in the long run Mueller is developing very well and im not ready to say I lost on this one. Kinda one of those both sides win deal.
Rob Schremp for Niko Dimitrakos and Hannu Toivonen. Toivonen is now out of the NHL Niko is a chump and Robbie was tearing it up for me til unexpectedly and definitely undesiredly. during a vacation of the rest of the playoffs. exited 2nd round my assistant GM decided that Schremp and Drew Stafford werent taking my team the right way and waived both of them. Staff I was able to reacquire but the Habs will not Schremp go. O well though.

Is Mike O'Connell still the GM in your game? That could explain a lot.

Yup he is, but even with the silly trades, Bruins are still playing above .500 hockey and 3 points behind the 5th place team. (Mid-way through the season)

It's typical. They're good enough to be competetive but not good enough to win. ](*,)

In all seriousness, it seems like certain teams always stay competetive in the game. In all the games I've played, I've only seen the Bruins be a cellar dweller type of team once (maybe twice but I can't recall). Calgary usually stays a playoff team too. Carolina seems to never make the playoffs (except when I controlled them in the challenge). Then you get the teams that surprised you and turn it around pretty quickly. Columbus is tough team in my current game.

Best Trade

Post by Craig Viau »

I've only made two trades but right after the 2006/2007 draft I traded Dominic Hasek who I picked up around the 40th round Who is 41 or 42 years old and a 2nd round pick for Antero Niittymaki.

I'm also pleased with getting John Madden for Josef Vasiek, a third round pick and the rights to Kevin Lalande and Derrick Lapointe. They both had 3 stars from my perspective. This may not be awesome but Madden is one of my favorites.

The financial staff not liking a deal has a lot more figured into it than simple numbers; it has to do with it not matching their team plan it takes into consideration the length of contracts/when players might become free agents and the cost it might entail to bringin another player for the same role.

In this particular case I'd guess that they see the deal as leaving Datsyuk's role open so to bring in another player would mean that it's probably not a saving but an eventual adding of salary to cover his spot. So it is looking at a lot more than the salary numbers.

Also with some teams they don't see savings as a postive thing if they are at or near the league's salary floor as they'd then be foreced to bring in other players to get up over the floor amount.
