Alternate database updates

Post by Foss »

Hey, I was wondering if there would be any interest or demand for alternatives to the great Lidas database update series.
I've noticed that the aforementioned updates have had a monopoly concerning EHM. What I want to know is that would anybody use an alternative to Lidas' updates?

There are other people doing their one updates. I know M_Ace does his own. The thing is, the Lidas updates have been the most accurate. TBL has gotten behind the Lidas rosters (now being done by Manimal) because of this and we continue to support it. We even use it for our challenges. Also, what is the need for another version of the same thing?

Now if you're talking about historical databases or some other database that isn't set in the current NHL season, I'd love to see something like that. Personally, I'd love to see a database made for the year the last two expansion teams entered the NHL. It's not that long ago but it would certainly be interesting to build up those two new teams with the players they were able to take in the expansion draft.

Is this just a common opinion or is there something else behind it?

Common opinion. Another thing that several people like about the Lidas rosters is that there is a readme file including a list of the changes done.

The main reason I'm asking this is that I was planning on making an update for the Finnish SM-League and possibly historical databases. I thank you for a comprehensive answer.

There is a few historic db's: 79-80db and 98-99db. I'm not sure, but there could be 92-93db also.

At 79-80db I made a lots of editing to Sm-league (mostly players), but then db crashed and i lost everything. It wasn't hard to find rosters of that season, but it was quite impossible to find stats for players, who has played in 60's or early 70's.

The thing with the M-Ace DB is the ages and contract years. And the attributes are not necessarily as accurate. However, as an interim measure, I am in the process of editing the most recent M-ACE DB for ages, as well as contract years to make it a bit more playable in both the short-term and longer-term, while we anxiously wait for the "LIDAS/Manimal" update. I will hopefully be able to up it tonite (prior to the Leafs-Sens game).

I have completed the edits to M-ACE's 10-11 BETA DB.

The base DB is MACE's 10-11 BETA, with an age edit, as well as correction to "game" years for contract end dates.

I cannot vouch for anything else in this DB.

Please note that the contract values DO NOT include 2-way's, meaning that the budgets will be a bit messed up early on (although each team's budget has been increased to $70M).

The salary cap is the same as this year's real-life cap.

This is meant to keep us sane while waiting for the LIDAS/MANIMAL update.

I think the whole point of this thread has been derailed by the last two or three posts.

Not really..you asked about alternate data bases, and leafsnation not only discussed one, but put it up in this thread for you to download.

Lidas and researchers put an incredible amount of time into trying to get as much acccurate as possible for his db. rating players, prospects, teams, leagues, etc to keep as up to date as possible. Now Manimal is continuing this tradition.

Is it perfect? No. Never has been never was. But it is simply the most complete and up to date option we have had to date. If someone wants to go ahead and do a separate one for as many leagues as possible, and make it more accurate than Lidas, by all means....people would love that.

Foss-You have been talking about the update for Finland leagues. Awesome! Maybe you should give Manimal a shout and see if we can put it into Lidamal db (I think we can combine the name now for Lidas and Manimal)...and it would have even more updated stuff (not sure if someone already doing or done the Finnish leagues.

If you would like to do more than the Finnish league update then it would be interesting work to see..for sure.

There are other options including unfaking db from alessandro and crew and are great for what they are (which update ratings and players are added in etc, but they keep the ages of the players the way they were when the game originally came out and it is not up to date rosters...).

There are other options--Lidamal gets talked about the most, and used the most because it is the most interesting (Wont say best) one out there. If anyone wants to put the thousands of hours into it that it would take to make another db option...great! It won't be me though.

No to take this too off-topic but I was thinking "Midas" to combine Manimal and Lidas while also bringing up the story of King Midas and everything he touches turning to gold. It just sounds cool. :nerd:

Going way over the topic, but I don't think that golden gloves would be very... flexible.

Wouldn't it be great? Of course, it would have to be very thorough. It would be a huge research project. If it was going to be good, it would have the whole world updated for that time and we'd have younger versions of today's players populating the lower leagues. It would be great to watch these guys develop and then have the chance at drafting them.

The problem is, the further you go into the past the more young versions of players would have to be added.

Right but the NHL added it's last 2 franchises (Wild and Blue Jackets) in 2000. So it's been 10 years. Sure, that a ton of players to add, 10 years worth, but it would be an epic database. It would also work with the current NHL league structure. That's as far back as you can go without having league structure problems. Of course, we didn't have a salary cap back then but I'm sure it could be made to work.

Another interesting database would be the one with the NHL in lockout. The AHL and European leagues had loads of NHL players that season.

But what would you do with the NHL? I don't think the game will allow you to remove it.
