How Do You Play EHM?

Post by B. Stinson »

Just for fun, I'm interested to see how everyone plays EHM. Do you coach your games, or play GM-only? Do you watch your games, or simply sim them?

Since the addition of the real-time match engine, I've always played GM-only, and watched full games. To be honest, though, I secretly found this to be pretty boring, and it kept me from really getting into EHM 2007 like I did 2004 and 2005. In fact, I've never touched the new 2007 tactics, and I don't believe I've ever actually finished a season  (watching all your games at full length just takes entirely too long).

But it's been at least a couple years, and I've just started playing EHM again. This time, however, I'm gonna go back to the way I used to play: GM/coach, and only sim games.

So what about everyone else?

I'm not sure how to vote, cause I play GM and Coach and I watch the games with highlights at none. Meaning, in a way you could say, I sim, but it's not really simming either, cause that's a whole another deal. It's also not "watching", really.

I used to watch highlights for a long time, but in the end it got boring, and also slow, and I decided to just watch the clock run instead.

I GM/Coach and Sim. At least I think I coach as I run practice, set game roster and lines and also do the tactics. I just don't do anything during the game as watching or in game coaching takes way too much time as I also do the above for my 2 farm teams. :)

This is what I do too. I will make adjustments during the game though. Usually I just make them between periods but if I see us go down 3-0 quickly, I'll pause and change things up a bit.

I play EHM almost only in challenges and therefore I GM/coach & sim all games.
Same as Tasku and bruins72, I don't watch games. Only in special occassions, such as later playoff rounds or overtimes.

Before I started playing challenges, I had played as GM only. Is the game called Eastside Hockey Coach? It's about managing a team, not coaching :-D But as I wrote, our challenges require to set lines/tactics and sim all games by myself. And it's real fun :-)

I used to make changes mid-game too, but lately, for some reason I've stopped. Now I just make changes after or before the game.

And as for tactics and such, I think one of the most satisfying parts of this game, for me atleast, is to make your own lineups and make changes to them with injuries, to shake things up, or to bring in young players and determine where to put them.

So yes, I do my own tactics and lines.

I GM/Coach and Sim. I hate watching the game so I prefer to sim and check the score go on and on. When something bad happen I cahnge my tactics but it's pretty rare. When I say I'm coaching I just barely change the tactics, I don't take too much time on it.

I havent voted cause I am different all the time. In online play I generally just GM and let my coach do his job. However, having said that, I need to learn how to coach better. In online play, it can make the difference between winning the cup or not as you are against other people who are good at both tactics and coaching not the AI.

I GM/Coach and watch games most of the time, if my Toronto Maple Leafs get stumped I just most likely fast forward it on fast or very fast. When I'm mid/near the end of the season and my team is doing poorly, I like to take a vacation up until the draft :-D

I've play/played FM and CM so to me it would feel weird not to watch the games. I wouldn't feel like I was actually managing a team if I was to sim the games.

I found this to be one of the biggest things I missed after going GM-only. The realism was nice, but it just wasn't as satisfying or engaging.

I play like Tasku and Bruins72. But, there are times when I completely watch the games because I need to see where my team is screwing up. I also completely watch the games during preseason because it helps me to see how the lines are working.

That sounds smart enough. I might try watching a game next time my team's on a loosing streak.

I tend to GM only and Sim the games (that is I 'watch' them in boxscore view with Key higlisht only and fastest pace.) Other wise I find it takes too long to go through the games.

Of course in challenges I have to add the coach aspect too it.

This is how I do it most of the time as well, my preseason tends to take a serious amount of time compared to the regular season.

I play the game like I played Championship Manager 01/02.

I'm GM and I'm coaching. But during games I usually just do things in between periods or when it's less than 10 minutes left.

I play just with the text and with high speed on the game. Only "highlights-happenings". So, I guess that is watching the game.

I do my own lines but I avoid doing tactics. I sim most games, but I do watch of the more important ones. I watched a game-7 Western Conference final a few days ago (sped up but still).

I play only as a GM and I never watch the games. I don't have enough patience nor skills to set up tactics and line-ups. That's why I have a good head coach who takes control of practice and games. For me being just a GM is the perfect way to play the game.

Though now it seems I have to coach a few games as I took control of Team Belarus...
