I drafted the Chara regen in the middle of the second round!

Like others have said, I tend to look at mental attributes. The odds of finding a star beyond the first round are slim (just as they are in real life) but I look more for role players in the latter rounds and depth rather than stars.

Normally what I look for, and this going from rounds 1-7, is the Scouting Report Card and the mental characteristics. Unless my staff is adamant about certain players I normally take players who are amibitious, determined, or of strong character. If I'm lucky I can draft a player who has all of those characteristics. Come training camp, the coach usually suggests that I sign those guys.

I always trade my picks for the 2nd-7th round picks but i stock up on 1st's. so i rarely draft outside the first round unless i am certain he is a Regen.

Okay, so I'll copy AvesFan's design and show some draft picks (not just mine) from the second round and later. I'm at New Year's Eve of 2035 now, so there's a few to choose from. I'll start from 2015, because the earlier fellas have retired. The guy in green is the only one of these I drafted myself.
Remember, these are far from all who have succeded. Just some of the best.

Entry Draft 2015:
- (D) Noel Kemp (60th Overall) 1536 [GP], 142 [G], 571 [A]. * Very offensive D who flourished after I traded him to the Oilers, with a record of 64 points in a season.
- (F) Libor Podesva (82nd Overall) 1293 [GP], 512 [G], 646 [A]. * Spent a total of 13 seasons as a goalscorer in Kings. A great forward who would have done even better in better teams.

Entry Draft 2017:
- (D) Kamil Novak (52nd Overall) 1343 [GP], 148 [G], 638 [A]. * One of the worlds best defenders. Regular member of the Eastern All-Stars, and have made the NHL All-Stars on two occasions.

Entry Draft 2018:
- (F) Frantisek Tkác (43rd Overall) 1179 [GP], 531 [G], 712 [A]. * Won the Calder Trophy, selected to the Rookie All-Stars as well as the NHL All-Stars. Record season of 104 points.
- (F) Pavel Blahut (45th Overall) 1271 [GP], 516 [G], 757 [A]. * Won the King Clancy Trophy on three occasions, and has been voted as the Blackhawsk best player for 8 (eight!) consecutive years.
- (F) Jiri Skrbek (198th Overall) 1115 [GP], 309 [G], 615 [A]. * Drafted in the 7th round, yet Skrbek has made over 1000 points in the NHL. 93 points in 2026/27 is as of yet his best.

Entry Draft 2020:
- (G) Jirí Kudrna (157th Overall) 782 [GP], 380 [W], 90.4 [%]. * 6th round draft pick. Kudrna has been a top ten goalie in the NHL for over ten years now. Won 42 games and had a saving percentage of 91.5% in his best season.

Entry Draft 2021:
- (D) Ludevit Palko (33rd Overall) 1058 [GP], 220 [G], 529 [A]. * Perhaps the worlds best defender, and definitely top three. Won the Hart Memorial and the Norris Trophy, among others. A regular on the 2nd All-Star team and Palko have also been five times on the 1st All-Star team. Has made 75 points in a season.
- (G) Valeri Krikunov (56th Overall) 612 [GP], 319 [W], 91.1 [%]. * One of the few goalies in the game who have managed to get 92% or more in three different seasons. Winner of the Vezina Trophy.

Entry Draft 2025:
- (F) Kris Scott (42nd Overall) 578 [GP], 252 [G], 346 [A]. * Won the Calder as well as being named to the Rookie All-Stars. Already a legend in Colorado after having scored four goals in a Stanley Cup final game, making the result 5-4 instead of 1-4. Yes, I was the opponent.
- (F) Marcel Tomas (78th Overall) 547 [GP], 265 [G], 337 [A]. * Great scorer playing for the Sharks. Never won an individual trophy (yet), but is a regular member of the Western All-Stars.

Then there are a vast amount of ptomising players who have yet to set their mark in the NHL, but certainly will do. They've just achieved too little to be mentioned.
Also, notice I only mentioned player who has had great success in the NHL. There are plenty of players from the later rounds with GREAT attributes who never won anything or made a lot of points for various reasons. Still, most of the best players obviously comes from the first round.

I've picked up a few gems in later rounds of the draft so far, none more then that particular Czech RW who happens to of sprouted a young clone in my game ;)

Image

Round 4 [#118] in 2011 NHL Entry Draft

214 goals and 267 assists in 368 NHL games. Probably could of even drafted him later, but I saw him and quickly snapped him up

Image

Round 6 [#174] in 2015 NHL Entry Draft

Converting this guy to RW as a goalscorer, working pretty well, 10 goals and 15 assists in 30 NHL gaems for me in his career so far.

Image

Round 4 [#91] in 2012 NHL Entry Draft

Doesn't have the best stats, and wasn't that great in the OHL [50+51 in 253 games] nor in the AHL [34+61 in 120] but since coming up to the big team, he keeps putting points on the board, even though he can't shoot to save his life with [29+79 in 147] in the NHL. Quite solid points at NHL level for a bloke that is far from outstanding on paper

Also I'll copy AvesFan101's thingo about my drafting outside the first round. I've made lists of my drafts since my first one, to now [in 2018/19] so pretty easy to track.

Listing all players that were drafted for me and played a decent amount of NHL games for either the Ducks or another NHL team. [Yes I know there's a lot of rubbish players in there, but yeah, just putting them all in [as I'm interested in seeing that as well haha]]. A lot more players who got even less games

Entry Draft 2007
- (F) Dalton Smith [97th Overall] 81 [GP], 8 [G], 7 [A]. 236 PIM. *Career enforcers, all games with the Thrashers

Entry Draft 2008
- (D) Alexx Privitera [52nd Overall] 13 [GP], 0 [G], 2 [A]. 4 PIM. * Over again played all his games with the Thrashers, 387 AHL games before trying his hand in Europe where he's been very medicore apart from one season in Finland

Entry Draft 2009
- (F) Mikhail Kostyuchenko [46th Overall] 35 [GP], 2 [G], 4 [A]. 14 PIM. *Was actually a big fan of this kid, played most of his NHL games for me, was a good 3rd line forward, ended up career AHL'er before heading back to Russia where he's put up 13+12 in 42

- (F) Viktor Holmgren [61th Overall] 223 [GP], 37 [G], 56 [A]. 144 PIM. *Was tipped as a potential late bloomer, been with the organisation for 8 years now, bouncing up between AHL and NHL as a 13th/14th forward for us [manages over a PPG in the AHL] and tends to put up some decent points on the 3rd / 4th line for me when required

Entry Draft 2010
- (C) Graham Hanson [55th Overall] 103 [GP], 13 [G], 16 [A]. 40 PIM * Drafted as a promising center in College, but was involved in a package to acquire Devil's first round pick in 2012, where he played three seasons in Lowell as a second line center. Then traded to the Canes in a package to acquire Gromley + 3rd round pick, where he then finished the season with Albany, before playing the next half year with the Canes. Traded once again this time to Vancouver to acquire Shaone Morrison where he is their 13th forward

- (C) Pavel Mihalik [90th Overall] 497 [GP], 84 [G], 150 [A]. 198 PIM *After drafted spent another 2 years in Slovakia before coming to NA and spilting time between NHL and AHL before becoming my third line center since 2013

- (F) Wacey Short [175th Overall] 437 [GP], 12 [G], 37 [A]. 1325 PIM *My top enforcer / injure the opposition's top player player

Entry Draft 2011
- (F) Gabor Ondruska [49th Overall] 195 [GP], 62 [G], 94 [A]. 114 PIM. *Won memorial cup in 2nd year in juniors, plays next 3 years in the AHL putting up well over PPG pace, now my second line winger and shooutout master ;)

- (D) Pier Luc Gagne [79th Overall] 361 [GP], 11 [G], 33 [A]. 379 PIM * #6 for a couple of years for me, picked up off waivers by Sabres where he continues in the same role

- (F) Radko Kriz [118th Overall] 370 [GP], 216 [G], 268 [A]. 351 PIM *Biggest steal in the draft, debut season in the AHL put up 54+68 in 76 games, sweeping all awards he could win and winning the calder cup. 101 point debut season in the NHL.
-Calder Trophy 2014/15
-Hart Trophy 2015/16, 2016/17
-NHL First All-Star Team 2015/16, 2016/17
-5 Consecutive All-Star game appearances

Entry Draft 2012
- (G) Marcel1 Brunner [79th Overall] 117 [GP], 70 [W], 32 [L], 6 [T] ,8 . 2.60 GAA, 0.892 SV% * First successful Goaltender prospect pans out, soild year in OHL before heaving back to Switzerland, came back to NA in AHL, was outstanding, and is back up / 1b Goaltender for me currently

- (F) Runar Freyr Gustafsson [91st Overall] 147 [GP], 29 [G], 79 [A]. 70 PIM. * Icelandic prospect, was very average in OHL [50+51 in 253 games] and in the AHL [34+61 in 120]. But since coming up to the NHL has put up numbers at a very respectable rate.

- (D) Chevan Cain [141st Overall] 256 [GP], 6 [G], 29 [A]. 412 PIM * Big defensive enforcer [203 cm, 113 kg] for me, scored some clutch goals for me

- (C) Jody McKenna [171st Overall] 56 [GP], 0 [G], 3 [A]. 121 PIM * Career agitator more then enforcer, played 4th line C for me for a year, went to UHL to make more people aggro, now plying the trade in Britain.

Entry Draft 2013
- (C) Samo Kontrec [42nd Overall] 70 [GP], 4 [G], 16 [A]. 36 PIM * Quite a talented player in Slovenia before coming over to NA where he put up decent points totals in the AHL, played 19 games for me before being traded to the Sharks. Too bad they insist on playing him on 3rd/4th line LW.

- (F) Tom Volek [76th Overall] 295 [GP], 120 [G], 153 [A]. 153 PIM * Drafted by me and was impressive at OHL level. Traded to Thrashers in a package for a shutdown #3 D-man, proceeded to set up the GWG in Game 7 of the 2016 SCF against me 2 years later. You just can't write this stuff.

Entry Draft 2014
- (D) Rashit Korneev [51st Overall] 45 [GP], 4 [G], 14 [A]. 28 PIM * Currently my #4 dman on the Ducks, after 2 successful years on the farm team.
-AHL Rookie of the year 2016/17
-AHL First Star team 2017/18

- (D) Sauli Kauti [79th Overall] 81 [GP], 7 [G], 30 [A]. 79 PIM * Good looking prospect with good numbers in Finland Jr, and Fin-2, traded to Boston for a #1 Goaltender. #1 Dman on Bruins
-AHL Rookie All-Star team 2016/17

Entry Draft 2015
- (F) Kai Petrell [174th Overall] 32 [GP], 10 [G], 16 [A]. 14 PIM * Put up 41+41 in 48 games in his only season in the Finland top division, came over to NA and has spilt time between AHL and NHL in both seasons so far due to injures / suspensions. Chance at a full time spot in the NHL next year.
- Finland Top Rookie - 2016/17
- Finland Top Scorer - 2016/17
- Finland MVP - 2016/17
- Finnish Top Division title - 2016/17

That's all outside the top rounds for me so far that has played a reasonable amount of games, about 15 more who have played between 1-25 NHL games, but not much point showing them.

Deffs some steals in the later rounds if you can find them

My new game only in 2011-2012 season so far but already have a few decent prospects outside the first round.

I got my future goalie in the 4th round(2011) Clark Gomez(#120) Hybrid- "More talented Brent Krahn"
Currently has a 1.84gaa, in 17games and has an 11-3-3 Record, and a .927s% with MSU-Mankato
He's a few years away from making the roster and he really needs to get his "Mental" attributes in order

I've got high hopes for this guy too
Robbie Watson 4th round(2011) #103 (1st line potential, Goal Scoring forward)
He hasn't been so special at Western Michigan this year with only 12 points in 23 games, But his physical stats and most of the important Technical stats are pretty good, and he has a decent work rate to go along with it. He isn't the most defensive minded player but i think i can fix that with some work.
Image

Also have high hopes for
Morgan Hughes Round 3(2011) #90. (1st line Potential, 2-way, "More talented Mikko Koivu")
He doesn't have any extremely amazing stats outside of accelerating and teamwork. But they are all pretty well balanced across the board and most of his important attributes are high 70's to mid 80's.
He had a great first year at Mass, with 24g-55a-79p in 50 games despite only being projected for 35. Although this year he has 23p(8g-15a) in 23. Which isn't all that impressive but still respectable numbers.

I have a few others from lower rounds and of course my first and 2nd round picks that are all doing really well this year. I'm actually considering taking over the T-Stars next season just to make sure there development isn't hurt.

This first guy i drafted early in the 2nd round and he looks to be developing well and will be a solid contributor to my Sharks tema in the near future. I had my pick set for another player but once i saw he was a Forsberg regen i just had to jump on him. I'm excited to see how alot of these guys turn out, but he may end up being the best.
Drafted:2nd Round #31 Overall in 2009
Mental Characteristics: Realist, Determined, Mercenary
Projections By My Top Scouts: 1st Line Powerforward, Bigger Better Version of Derek Roy
Image

I originally drafted this guy kind of weary of his poor mental attributes but when i was looking at him closer and figured out he was a regen of Adam Graves, i was pleased with the pick. Graves was one of my favorite Sharks players ever so it was fun to get his regen.
Drafted:2nd Round #40 Overall in 2010
Mental Characteristics: Determined
Projections By My Top Scouts: 1st Line Powerforward, More talented version of Chris Kunitz
Image

Rooney was just a guy that all my scouts had recommended so figured what the heck lets check him out. He actually looks pretty solid to me and will probably be a very decent 3rd/4th line grinder depending on if his offensive skills develop.
Drafted:4th Round #120 Overall in 2010
Mental Characteristics: Realist, Model Citizen, Unambitious, Determined, Independent
Projections By My Top Scouts: 2nd Line Powerforward, Better Version of Jason Ward
Image

With some good training i think i can bring Naumov in on the 3rd pair in a few years.
Drafted:2nd Round #59 Overall in 2009
Mental Characteristics: Casual, Strong Character
Projections By My Top Scouts: Stay-At-Home defenseman no. 3-4, Like Anton Volchenkov

All the players are drfated by me or played their whole NHL carrer in my team.

-(D) Evzen Muzik (55th Overall) Chara regen starting first season in Nhl,Played very good pre-season (2+4 3gp with 9.34 AvR)Played last seasons in Ahl but didnt shine there, but Imk gonna still give him a oppoturnity.

-(D) |tefan David (180th Overall) Dont know whos regen he is but, boy he is good 4+6 in PreSeason played in Czech last season and now he is ready for NHL,but im afraid that I dont have space for him beacuse my Defense is better than you can imagine (Every Single one drafted first round except |tefan David)

-(D) Bohus Baca (90th Overall) Very good Slovakian defenceman thought first that he is Chara regen but after I drafted him I realized that he was too small to be Charas regen  He have same thing going on with David.Scored 30+90 last season in Chilliwack.

-(F) Hannu Rautakallio (65th Overall) Lehtinen regen no doubt of that (Five Seasons in Avs and NHL and every single time he has won Frank.J Selke Trophy) Scored on his second season 59+71 Finishing third in Art Ross and Conn Smythe and Second in Maurice Richard. And has won one time Plus-Minus award.

-(F) Radomir Kadlec (78th Overall) Very good player scored 43+41 on his rookie year.Best stats (By rookie) after first year when almost everybody are rookies. His Fifth season is his best by now 59+74.Has won Calder Trophy,Lester.B Pearson and Conn Smythe.
