Doing the Oilers with the 79-80 Rosters

Post by tksolway »

So, I've had the 79-80 Rosters for some time, and I have played a few games in the past up to 3-4 seasons at times. But I decided that I wanted to do Gretzky's Career, So I edited the Transfer Config to remove the Salary Cap, and got too it.

So far I'm into the fourth Season. I made the playoffs in my first season and have Won the cup in the last two seasons. I have some Pics of various cool news items, and my final stats for the third season. Since the new challenge was released, I'm sure I will putting this on the back burner for now.

I'm not limiting myself with trades, because I want to make sure that The Oilers are all brought back together. So I must admit I have been a little merciless with my trades to make sure I had the draft pics to get them. For instance before the first season had began I had traded for the 1st rounders from Hamilton and Ottawa for the next three years. Getting them all has pretty much garaunteed me a lottery pick in each year, and now I have pretty much every Oiler, I only need to wait for Tikkanen, and I should be able to get him by trading some of the other talent I have drafted.

Glad some guys are still playing this thing :)

I tried doing Gretzky's career, as well. But I always stopped somehow. One time I also drafted Lemieux in 84, but it was simply unfair.
My longest running game has been with the Penguins. I was basically just fiddling around and awaiting the arrival of the chosen one. Then I got #66 and he scored 117 points in his first year. I also drafted Coffey (37 goals once), Francis and Brett Hull. Hull plays on Mario's wing. They are dominating! Gretzky, by the way, is still with the Oilers and is currently outscored by his teammate John Ogrodnick... :D

So this database is filled with filler teams? Never heard from half of those teams :-D

Fun idea though. I'm too young to have any nostalgy whatsoever. If I had finnish/swedish vintage rosters maybe I should build a dynasty around the finnish Gretzky Raimo Helminen?
