Noticed on the last match thread that you were at a game. Airport near me a budget airline does flights to Riga so maybe tempting to go over don't think I'll manage it this season as I'm gonna go the elite league play off weekend in Nottingham as I've never been before. So what is the lowdown for Riga in terms of stuff to do and how much does food and accomodation cost in comparison to UK. Latvia now in the EU so I imagine it won't be as cheap as it used to be.

Hey grazza

Highly recommend visiting Riga! I went for a week, which was abit too long really, it's a small city so a weekend or so would be best i'd think! The low down from me would be...

First the currency is Lahts, you don't get alot of lahts for the pound as it's worth more but once you get there you get alot for your lahts kinda thing. I had about 300 lahts for the week and it lasted me for food, hockey, visiting the zoo and circus and random things like that, buying my jersey and such. The average monthly wage is about 250 lahts i believe to give you a rough idea how much things cost.

Our hotel was out of the city centre and was €30 per night, but the trams run everywhere and are crazy cheap (70p) any journey! Meal in restaurants was around 15-25 laht and alcohol if you stay away form the tourist bars (especially Alberts Bar) was morealess the same as here! Mad House being highly recommended bar as it is a Dinamo fanclub bar and just shows Hockey all day and night :joy:

Ticket to the game was 12 laht, (and it was 5 laht in a taxi from city centre, but tram 11 goes close for like 70p!) it was a 2nd tier front row seat just to the right of the goal line.

So yeah sorry for the amount! I just loved it there and will be going again this November or so! I liked the little aspects alot too like walking around Stockmann the department store and every TV was showing KHL TV and some little kid at Riga airport chanting 'DINAMO RIGA' to me!
