Conceding goals in the 3rd

Post by AndyMan »

I am in my second season and have an appaling record with the coyotes (3-18-2), and alot of the problem seems to be a bad PK%, but more so I seem to be giving away the lead in the 3rd. Is there anything I can do about this?

Maybe your defence has poor stamina and/or fitness. It might be worthwhile to increase their fitness training. You could try Minstrel's "week of hell" training schedule:
This involves training at medium setting until the last week of the month. At the beginning of the final week, the intensity is set to ‘light’ for everything apart from ‘conditioning’ which is set to ‘instense’. This lasts about five days. After that, everything is set to ‘light’ for a few days and then back to ‘medium’.
Also, maybe you need to tweak your PK tactics?

I have been tweeking everything like crazy, but nothing seems to work. I have atleast got it to the stage where I am only loosing matches by 1 goal now though.

The lowest stamina rating on my defence is 14, the others are all 16+, so i don't that is a problem, plus I am playing three defensive lines.

Ofcourse, it dosn't help that I know nothing about the game :p

The archibalduk (yours?) guide was a help, and got me into 11th in my first season. So i don't know what has happened since then.

Maybe you're tweaking things too much? I've done that before, too. Try leaving the tactics alone for a few games to see if the players settle down.

Best to approach tactics changes like many NHL teams do; focus on 10 game segments. That way you have a better chance to figure out what is actually working/not working. If you make too many changes and don't give yourself enough time to see if they're working before changing something else you end up have slid so many proverbial levels up and down you have no idea what is what anymore.

You need time to let random instances pass you by. You might make a change and your next game you do well mainly because the opposing golatender had an off night or they had an injury on D giving you more chances than usual, or any of a 100 other things not having to do with that you changed your tactics before the game.

Well, i did settle on a new tactic and stuck to it, and got a 5-3-0 record (i think, it may have been 4). Either way i had a nice winning streak. I am still bottum though.

Thanks for the help, if there is any other tips you can tell me, i'd be glad to hear them!

One thing that I always do, is if I find my team to be in a horrible loseing streak, I let the head coach take over practices and tactics for a few games. He usually manages to get the team back on track, and then I take over again and hog all the credit. 8-)

I was having the same problem, giving up late goals so what I've been doing as of late and seems to be working; if I have a two goal lead heading in to the third period I switch to my top three forward lines only and switch the tactics from attacking to defensive. If I'm up by one goal I wait untill there is about ten minutes left before I do that. This is all of course if you watch your games which I do at fast clock & fast commentary.
