Is EHM2007 the game for me?
Hi all,
I have run my fictitious hockey league (solo league) using one form or another since 1970. I currently use SimonT Hockey Simulator for my league. It's a good game, but I am interested in having most, or all, of my teams run by a computer GM. At present, SimonT HS can not do this. I have had a legally purchased licensed of EHM2007 hanging around my house for years, but only recently have I given it a try. Perhaps you can help me out, and possibly save me some time, by telling me if I can run my league with EHM2007.
My league is as follows:
20 team league, each team with a minor league affiliate
All teams and players have fictional names
In both the pro & minor league, 8 teams make the playoffs
At the end of the playoff year, I play a world championship (country vs country)
Obviously, I would have to greatly edit the database. I have played around a little with the pre-game editor and the saved game editor and have managed to screw up the default database pretty good. Does anyone have any advice for me on how I could accomplish this task?
Thanks!

In EHM you can not change the number of teams per league, and you can not create new playable leagues. You can, however, add affiliations. So if you find a league with 20 teams, you may replace those teams with your own teams and name them as you wish, give them affiliates, and so on. This could make your database prone to crashes and whatnot, but still possible to create, as long as you find that 20 team league in the game.landru22 wrote: 20 team league, each team with a minor league affiliate
No problem. All teams and players have fictional names
Once again, if you find leagues like this already in the game, you may put your own teams in. Otherwise, not possible. In both the pro & minor league, 8 teams make the playoffs
This already takes place in EHM, just as it does in real life. However, the same problem is in EHM that eats away talent in the World Champs in real life: The NHL playoffs.!At the end of the playoff year, I play a world championship (country vs country)

Thanks for the info. I'll have to see if any of the leagues are similar to mine. Do you know if changing the league name is possible?

You could always do a league manually with Excel and some dice
. You can run any league/world you can possibly imagine, limited only by the amount of work you want to put into it.

I am willing to put work into it. I am just taking my first baby steps in learning what I need to do. So far everything I have tried to do has crashed the database. I guess trial and error will be my best teacher.

What things have you tried to change thus far? We might be able to tell you what's causing the crash.landru22 wrote:I am willing to put work into it. For example, changing the number of teams in a league will always certainly cause a crash.

I'm going to play around a little more this weekend with it but, using the pre-game editor, I changed the name of 20 of the 30 nhl teams to my team names. I kept the cities the same where I could, but changed when I couldn't (For example, I don't have a team in Ottawa so I changed the Senators to my team in Quebec). When I went to load this back in to the EHM game it said it couldn't find the OTT record (I'm sorry, I didn't write down the exact error message). I'm going to try the same experiment again, this time just changing one team at a time and see what happens.
By the way, this board is easily the friendliest message board I have ever come across. Thank you all!!!!

In regards to that error you got, you may run into that some more.
I believe this happens when you completely replace teams, and then the game can't find them in the database. It's another one of those weird quirks with editing EHM.
Instead of completely converting the team, try copying them, and then convert that copy to your new team. Then go back to the original, and set their leagues and divisions to be nothing.
You should basically end up with a bunch of NHL teams still in the database, except with no league information. Then you'll have all your teams, all set to be playing in the NHL.
Hopefully that makes sense!... I have no editing experience at all, I just remember seeing this talked about a number of times

Re: Is EHM2007 the game for me?
Yes - I think there's a couple of teams in the game that cannot have their name changed - or they cannot be moved out of their default league (I can't remember which). I think there's a (partial) list of them somewhere on the forums.
You might find this post by Tasku helpful: http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums/vi ... 199#p47199
Something that might also be of use for you is this (I just came across this and never knew this could be done until now!!):
Good luck!

Btw, if EHM doesn't work out for you then you could try Faceoff Hockey 2010: http://www.wolverinestudios.com/foh2010.html. To be honest, I wasn't bowled over by it, but it might just do everything you want. There's a feature list on the page I've linked to.pens66 wrote:If you want to erase all player histories you have to add the command "-norealplhist" in the properties of the short cut you start EHM with (excuse my choice of words here... I've never seen an English version of Windows, lol). Simply double click the short cut to start the game, create a new career and all players won't have any histories.
This only works for players, though. There's no such command for the team and league histories as far as I know. They are somehow hardcoded, which is a little sad.
Good luck!

Re: Is EHM2007 the game for me?
Baby steps:
I tried to simply rename the Ontario Hockey League to my league (Super Hockey League). Using the pre-game editor on the default database, I clicked the "Club Competitions" tab and renamed the OHL. I also changed the short name to SHL, abbreviation to SHL, rep to 20 and age to 0 (as the NHL is set). I kept the country Canada for now. I confirmed and saved and then attempted to create a new game with this db. I received an error message, "Unable to find DB_Comp_Ontario_Hockey_League_index", and then the game completely crashed. Obviously, there is more to renaming a league than this. Is there any kind of tutorial anywhere on database structure?

Looks like leagues also need to be copied before they can be changed.

What is meant by "copied"? There is no "Copy" button, but there is a "Add New" button under "Club Competitions". Are you saying I should create a brand new OHL, exactly the same as the original, then delete the original and edit the copy?

Correct. See my post a few posts up. EHM is set to look for certain teams (and apparently leagues, too), and if it can't find it in the database, you get that index error. To get around this, you need to keep these teams and leagues in the database, and simply remove their league and division information. With their league and divisions set to nothing, they won't show up in the game, but they'll still be there in the database. If you want a new team to have an existing team's info, I guess you create a new team, and copy the info. Then set their league and division info to be whatever it needs to be to replace a team.

Re: Is EHM2007 the game for me?
Thanks for your help! I have successfully changed the name of all of the teams in the OHL to my league (the SHL). I am, however, having trouble changing the name of the league. Using B. Stinson's advice, I copied the OHL and all of their divisions and then edited the copies to my league names. When I change all the teams to the new divisions and then try to create a new game in EHM2007, the game crashes (no error message, just a crash). Prior to the crash, I did get an error which I am sure is related to my edits which stated "V3.0.4 can_ohl.cpp 87". As soon as it gets to the "initializing league" area, it crashes. I thought that maybe, since I labeled the SHL's country to USA, that caused the error. I changed it back to a Canadian league, but I still got the same message.
Any ideas?

Re: Is EHM2007 the game for me?
It is probably because the OHL is part of the Memorial cup at the end of the season. The age limit is also a thing to keep in mind. Try changing the age-rule for the Memorial cup,OHL,QMJHL and WHL to 0 and see what happens
BTW, you shouldn't put your league in the OHL-copies. You must have them in the original ones or the league is not playable

Re: Is EHM2007 the game for me?
Thanks for the reply Manimal. I tried to change the age limit of the other leagues (QMJH & WHL) and also changed the names of the original league and divisions (and created copies that contain the original names), but the database still crashed after the "V3.0.4 can_ohl.cpp 87" error. Any idea what the game might be looking for that it isn't finding?
