NHL coming to Europe again - October 2011

Post by archibalduk »

The NHL is coming over for its annual trip to Europe. I thought I'd quote a PM I received from my bro in case anybody is interested in going:
Calv wrote:Games are:
Friday October 7th Ducks - Sabres Helsinki
Friday October 7th Rangers - Kings Stockholm
Saturday October 8th Rangers - Ducks Stockholm
Saturday October 8th Sabres - Kings Berlin

Theres also a couple of exhibition games on the 4th Octorber by the looks of things as well.

Sweden tickets are here: http://www.ticnet.se/search.php?tm_link ... eyword=nhl

And went on sale today, I know of UK people who have bought tickets so we might be in luck this time!

Germany tickets are here: http://www.o2world.com/event/1208.htm

But they look like you need to call them up about it; they go on sale tomorrow.

Can't find the Helsinki tickets & I'm not sure when they go on sale.
Myself and Calv tried to book tickets for last year's games but it seemed only Nordic credit cards were accepted. Thankfully this year they're accepting foreign credit cards, and so we've booked ourselves tickets for the two Rangers v Kings games in Stockholm. Can't wait! :joy:

I so wish I had more money so I could watch the Rangers in my birth town. Now I'm off to play the lottery...

Helsinki tickets aren't sale yet, I think.

It will be huge game, when/if Selänne plays exhibition match against Jokerit. If he retires, he will play in Jokerit's team and his jersey number will be retired.

I like how they are doing a 'round robin' style instead of a series style like the previous years. Good for the fans too as they have more choice.

It's really not cheap is it! We've paid approx €370 each for tickets to both games, flights and two nights in a hotel. :brix: I don't think I could afford to do that every year!

It's almost 512 Canadian dollars for two NHL games plus flights AND hotel? That's so CHEAP!!!! You're very lucky! Something like this here could cost at least 900$ for sure. ( 650 euro )

Cannot wait for this; watching the bruins last year was good but you could tell they weren't going 100% said was an exhibition game.

Kings v ducks in London wasn't so good because we had a rubbish view; we've got better seats this time so it should be a better experience

I agree - as awesome as it was to see the Bruins, it was only an exhibition game and they clearly weren't going all out. Having said that, it was exhilarating to see the UK team fight so hard against them. Even as a Bruins fan, I was really hoping the UK team would score a few more!

Equally, the Ducks v Kings game was a great spectacle, but the view was poor (I was unemployed at the time and couldn't afford to pay anything more than for the noosebleed seats) which spoilt it a bit. Plus, I wished had been able to see the second game because the game went so quickly. I'm glad that we've gotten tickets for both Kings v Rags games and hopefully we'll have better seats.

Hopefully we'll be able to meet up with Manimal if he's able to make it to Stockholm.

Yeah the ticket prices were quite reasonable compared, for example, to what you could get for two soccer matches in the UK. It seems European hockey games (even those involving NHL teams) are quite well priced. Although I'm not sure how much the demand is in Europe to see the NHL games. I think when the NHL visited Stockholm last season, there were still tickets available right up until the game night (or thereabouts). It's the same when the Bruins visited Belfast last year - there were quite a few empty seats IIRC. It's funny because whenever myself and my bro see these games go on sale, we'll book them as quickly as possible so as to ensure we actually get tickets. Perhaps we needn't worry so much!

Holy rubbish. I travelled to New Jersey (11 hour drive) by car earlier this month, got a hotel for two nights and spent $100 on the ticket just because it was cheaper than going to MTL. Total cost would have been more than 370 euros and there was no flight! If you can get all that for such a good price, Air Canada must be ripping me off hella bad.

I have been able to put away money for at least one of the games, so I'm gonna order them soon.

What section are you guys in? Would be fun to have someone to talk to during the game

Anyone know much about Stockholm? Just looking for any general advice will get in late on thursday night and leave Sunday morning. Is there maybe a tram or bus pass that might be worth getting? Do buses/trams only accept exact change? How good is the natives English or should I try to learn some basic Swedish though prob too late. Also any good places to go to eat or drink that are not too expensive (for local standards). I might also get some local Swedish team merchanside if I have enough money left.

The average Swede is pretty good at english so that should not be a problem. Merchandise for both the NHL teams and local Swedish teams are usually available at the Globe arena. As for food and transportation, we usually use the subway to get around; if you stay at a hotel in the city it is pretty convenient to get to the arena that way. Same for food, there are plenty of restaurants in the arena area. Hopefully there are Stockholm natives around here who can give you a better answer.

I visited Stockholm a couple of years ago and absolutely loved it. It's probably the cleanest city I've ever visited.

The metro (underground) is the best way of getting around the city. You can buy different passes (something like a one day / three day / seven day pass) or just singles. There are ticket booths and also ticket machines (I'm fairly certain they give change).

The weather forecast says that it'll be ten degrees celcius. However because it's right on the coast (by the Baltic Sea) it can be quite breezy and so there's the windchill. I'll be taking a decent coat and fleece just to be on the safe side.

I'll be flying out on Friday morning and coming back on Sunday. I can't wait!

I would have loved to be there with you guys but I have to work. I don't have much work now and I have to take all I can get, especilly now with a baby a month away.

Here's a website where you can read about tickets (in English) http://sl.se/en/Visitor/Tickets/

I was born in Stockholm but I don't live there now so I don't really know what places are good to eat and drink.

Have a good time guys!

Sounds like it was a blast. I've never been to Stockholm but I have several friends in Ireland and Northern Ireland who went bonkers over the Bruins/Belfast Giants exhibition match last season. Growing up in rural Nova Scotia, I remember years past when the Islanders, Bruins, Senators and Devils all held training camp in or near my hometown.

Cheers,

Leeman14

P.S. I was in Zurich this past spring for business and missed my chance to see a NLA match. I always make an effort to see other teams/leagues play regardless of the talent level.
