retirements are idiodic

Post by chessarmy »

Can someone explain to me why retirements suck so bad in this game? I'm a month away from starting a new season and Brodeur says he's going to retire at the end of the season, great, he gave me a heads up so I can prepare for his departure.

I look a few messages afterwards and it says he's already retired, even though the previous message said he'd be waiting until the end of the season. Is this a glitch or what? I was left with no starter and had to scramble to get someone who really shouldn't start to carry the team through the season. I really wish I could get a better heads up when someone as important as MARTIN BRODEUR decides to hang em up

One on a long list of problems that we would love to see fixed in any new version if we ever get one.

Yeah. Whenever someone mentions they are going to retire at the end of the season... they really mean at the end of the week. ](*,)

This current game I'm playing, this past offseason Halpern and Cullen both retired in the middle of July, I lost 2/3rds of a darn good third line in the blink of an eye. I think when I was playing 1.5 db, Kaberle announced his retirement in the summer, but actually played a full season before retiring. Never seen that happen any other time.

I've had issues too. One year I was running into cap issues so I traded away one of my star players, with some decent young returns and picks. The next day another star player (Tavares) retired. ](*,)

My favorite is when you sign one of the top guys from the free agent class that year and they turn around and retire literally the next day. Then, at the same time, you have a top older player that won't retire, but won't sign anywhere.I had that issue with Brodeur recently. Playing with the Wings, Howard suffered not one, but two UCL tears and literally lost him for a season, and my back up goalie was not quite there yet to be a full time starter, so I tried to sign Brodeur for what he asked for (which was something like 1 or 2 yrs for $10-$11 mil a season) so I would have a solid starter to help my team, but he wouldn't sign. A few older players with great stats do this, but they don't retire, they just sit as a FA all season, then retire the next offseason.

You can't retired jersey numbers. It seems that if you want a player got his jersey retired he needs to be with your team all of his career ( under contract, not even going UFA and re-sign with you ) but I never seen someone been able to achieve this.
