Development of a new hockey manager game

Post by Dron »

I've started planning the development of a new hockey manager game that would have big similarities with Football Manager and Eastside Hockey Manager, but with more focus on the development of the club and the economics of the club. The plan right now is to not use any real leagues such as the NHL or Elitserien and instead use fictional leagues.

The idea of the game is to start off as a GM in a club in the absolute lowest divison, with all that comes with it. You'll have very bad training facilities, no arena/rink of your own, next to no money, no sponsors and so on, this idea is still under development. You'll have to work to improve your clubs economics, get sponsors, improve training facilities, get better staff and players and develop your prospects and of course advance to higher leagues.

The main reason im posting this is because i need ideas for the game, im working alone on this and sometimes it would be good to have someone to talk to about the ideas i have and it would also help to get ideas from other people.

If you feel like you're interested in the development of the game or if you feel you want to discuss ideas or share some of your own ideas with me you're free to post in this thread, send a pm or mail me at hm12.project@gmail.com

Depending on the progress of development and of course the interest for the game i may put up a development blog or a forum in the future.

The game will not be web based and will be written in C++, which libs i'll use is yet to be decided.

Sounds very interesting. I really have no idea what to say to help you. To make this type of game succesful, you should make it as modifiable as possible. So that people can create leagues, and do different things. Fictional leagues and players are great. But people will want the ability to add on to the game and include the NHL teams and their players as goals for their upstart GM.

I think it is a great idea, and I hope you are able to continue to follow through with this. Many guys run out of time/energy/desire to do these things. Best of luck to you.

Also...I know there are guys out there who have put a ton of time into their projects and are still going hard (Dabo for example) who need people like you to work with them. So if you find your idea is too much to work on your own...I know people will be interested in using your C++ skills etc in other areas. Have a look around the site...there are tons of ideas of what people want.

Perhaps making people able to write mods for the game would be a good idea. I saw Dabo's project but it seemed to have halted, didnt check it in detail though. I will check it out.

Welcome to TBL and good luck with your project.

I couldn't say anything that Batdad hasn't already said - i.e. customisation is hugely important (i.e. being able to add/edit players/leagues/etc) and also that Dabo would most likely like another hand with C++ coding.

There are loads of ideas that have been discussed with regards to Dabo's project here: http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=47 - perhaps this might help you get an idea of what people think.

Dabo's project is very much alive and kicking. His regular update posts can be found here: http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=89
