Long Term Contract
Almost all my players are asking for 1 year deal. Its a pain in the arse to resign all those core players every year.... and the worst part is each year they ask for more $$$. How do I get a player to sign a long term deal such as a 4 or 5 year deal? Thx.

I can usually only sign players for 1 more year than they're asking for and sometimes they won't even accept that. You can also include an option year in your offer. That's like an extra year on a player's contract too. You just have to choose to take the option. The only other way I think you'll get these guys to take a longer contract is to offer them more money but then you could be overpaying for them.

Due to the Cap now, players are very unlikely to accept a long term deal even for substantially more money; chasing after one could mean they'll decide they no longer want to talk about deals so start offering early to not get caught losing people as they leave as free agents...
I agree with B72 though; you can usually get people to sign on for two if they ask for one and then go to your 'extra' menu and add a Team Option Year and that gives your three years; players don't seem to consider that when signing so I've started offering them by habit now. It's like a frozen year as it goes at the same amount as the last year of the contract

Yes, me too. I've always included the Team Option Year option in all of my offer to the players. But then when I excercise the option (especially for up and coming young guns) they will complaine about being underpaid and start to get unhappy. Does a player's unhappiness has any effect on his playing ability?
p.s. Well, I guess in this cap system long term contract would be rare eh?
