Buyouts/Arbitration
How does it work in EHM. Is there arbitration? Or a buyout-period?

I occasionally buy-out useless minor leaguers who are simply taking spaces on my payroll. You can negociate a price or simply give 1/3 of the salary to the player, after putting them on waivers of-course
I've seen 2-3 times players asking arbitration but I've always re-signed them before the arbitration system takes effect...

I've had players asking for arbitration only once, and I make a living out of taking RFA's usigned all the way to august or even early september. And, as said above, I resigned the player before the arbitration took place. It seems it's a player's thing, the GM can't ask for an arbitration.
As for buyout, the option will come up when you waive the player, and it can be done throughout the season, so there's no "buyout period".

If you request negotiations to buy out, they can say no, but I am pretty sure they can't block it if you decide to pay the full 1/3.thunderbug wrote:I've had a couple go to arbitration. Hi all....first time poster alert....
I play 2005, never had to buy out a player before but I've got a couple of big time underachievers on my online league team. Definitely considering buying them out in the offseason, but I'm not sure how the game handles it with regards to cap hits / finances, etc. As an example, I've got a 38-year old Tomas Holmstrom playing in the AHL for 1.8 mil a season (1-way contract) for one more year. If I bought him out, would it effect my team budget for next year?
Thanks in advance guys (& gals?)

Re: Buyouts/Arbitration
I have a question along the lines of Joecairo. In a 2005 online league, if I release a player I know I have to pay him, I just don't know if it all comes out of the current years budget? If a player has more than one year left and I release him, does the cap hit affect next years bottom line?

Not sure about 05 but in 07 when you release a player with more than 1 year left on there deal then that amount affects only the current year salary cap. For those high priced players you do need to be careful when you release them as they can really put a hurt on your cap space. Really the only time I release players is in May and June. Since this is at the end of the financial year whatever cap hit there is doesn't affect me. Also the total is prorated so a guy making 500k will only cost you around 18k to release since he has already been paid most of that 500k throughout the year.

tmratlif, in the 2005 online league, it appears that the players I released salaries only affected the current years cap. Thanks for the info.

Re: Buyouts/Arbitration
I've found that if you change the player's status to 'not needed', they'll usually accept a buyout. I've also found that it's the best to trade players with a NTC.
