Re: Playing in Windowed mode troubles

Post by archibalduk »

IIRC I used to be able to play windowed mode at 1024x768 so long as I had the taskbar on autohide.

With regards to the graphics being stretched out of proportion, it might be work seeing if there is any tool for your graphics card / display that can lock the correct aspect ratio. This will stop the image being stretched across the full width of your display.

I just did a quick Google search and found this: http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pa ... aling.aspx . This mentions an 'Enable GPU Scaling' option. If you can find this within the Catalyst Control Panel then try disabling it - it might stop the screen being stretched when playing EHM in full screen.

I think the minimum resolution for EHM is 1024x768. That prolly explains why you can't see the whole screen.

I've never heard of anyone using a resolution like yours. 1024x600. Are you using a laptop that has a non-standard screen size, or something? :-k

Im using a mini laptop 10", maybe thats why?

On my big ordinary laptop the screen's out. I've tried to play on it by connect the computer to my old TV, using the TV as screen.. But when the TV is so old i couldnt use a ordinary HDMI-cable = the screen is so small i need to zoom in for a chance to see anything. But when im playing EHM i cant come up with any idea how to zoom in, thats why i tried to use my mini laptop instead.

To bad it doesnt seem to be good enough. Guess i need to buy a new computer or a new TV to fix my problem.

Thanks for the help anyway :) And sorry for my bad english

Full screen mode requires at least 768 vertical pixels (e.g. 1024 x 768).

Windowed mode needs something like 800 vertical pixels. The task bar may also need to be on auto-hide.

Higher Resolutions

Is there a way to set higher resolutions in the game or by editing a specific file?

No I'm afraid it's locked at 1024x768.

If you play the game in full screen then it'll be scaled to the full size of your screen, but at 1024x1768.

Sorry for opening such an old topic but I found a possible solution for this (after a long time this was bothering me).

Disclaimer:
I don't play the game in Windows but in Linux using Wine. This solution is only useful for:
- Linux and Wine users like me
- Windows users who are able to do the same as I do in Linux (it may be possible but not being a Windows user myself I don't know how to do that - but someone else may know)

Steps to solve the issue on Linux:

1) scale your display to fake a bigger resolution by this command: xrandr --output LVDS-0 --scale 1x1.1
2) run the EHM
3) scale your display back to your resolution by this command: xrandr --output LVDS-0 --scale 1x1

NOTES:
- The "LVDS-0" is your output (how your display is connected). On laptop it will very probably be "LVDS-0" or "LVDS", you can also see e.g. "VGA-0", "HDMI-0" etc for external displays
- The "1x1.1" says that you want to have the same width and 1.1-times your height. You may need to adjust these values if your display resolution is different from mine or you have different panels on your screen etc. E.g. for the same width and 150% height you would use 1x1.5 - I hope you see the pattern.
- After you run EHM and set the display back, EHM should keep running (at least it doesn't crash on my laptop) and you should be able to play it. It will probably not fit your screen well (that's the original problem). You can deal with it by:
- moving the window so only some not needed part of it is not visible (out of the screen)
- switching the game to fullscreen mode that should work even on smaller screens
- omit the third step and play the game on the scaled screen - this has the disadvantage that everything will probably be blurred a little

I hope this helps to someone, I'm personally happy I found this solution :)

Thanks for explaining that. And for posting it in the three relevant topics. Much appreciated!
