Re: Official 11-12 NHL Regular Season Thread
Wings just gave up way to much for Quincey. He is a serviceable 4-5 guy who can play 2nd PP....he is not worth a 1st round pick.
Of course...Detroit has only had a first something like 4 times in the last 12 years. Interesting isn't that? Yet they still keep bringing in super solid prospects and are not cupboard bare at all...
But...Kyle Quincey? Wow. I dunno.

I think he started his career with them too, or was it L.A.? Anyway, he's been with them in the pass and of course the first is ALOT, the guy got one very good season I think. But like I said, Detroit probably don't care about their first and like you have said, they always draft strong even without one. God I hate this team.

Yeah he was drafted by Detroit, played 13 games over 3 seasons and then was claimed by LA on waivers, then later traded to Colorado. And now today traded twice.

Oh...and he was NOT a fan favorite in Detroit. The fans are not happy.

Ruutu will stay in Carolina. But 4.7 millions a year for him? Too high for me.

Something as come out about the Jackets trading Carter to L.A. for Johnson and a first rounder! Never thought L.A. will let Johnson go.

Re: Official 11-12 NHL Regular Season Thread
Good deal for both teams. LA needs Carter to score, and maybe he and his drinking buddy get together. Apparently they work better when drinking! And....Johnson has been rumoured to be on the way out for scoring for about 2 weeks...at least I have heard it a ton out here. Carter and Richards are a scary combo both on and off the ice. CBJ had no defense,...this gives them one.

Well maybe the L.A. will clearly told them both to not mess around now they are together again. But still, it's a wise move to put them back in the same team.

Re: Official 11-12 NHL Regular Season Thread
Is anybody else getting fed up with goaltender interference calls at the moment? It seems in every game I've watched recently there is at least one penalty, if not more. Yes, goalies should be protected but I think there are too many questionable calls right now.
For example, take a look at 29:34 into this video of the recent Bruins v Blues game.

Re: Official 11-12 NHL Regular Season Thread
Since Miller's incident the refs are getting crazy about interference calls. The last Habs/Bruins game was a nice exemple with 3 or 4. Two or 3 of them were complete garbage. I remember one, a Habs player skate to Thomas on breakaway, Thomas then goes out for at least ten feets from is circle to confront the guy and both collide. Result, interference for the Habs. That was complete Kasparaitis, Thomas took a chance by stepping foward and he got hit so it's the other player who got the penalty, what the hell?
Later in the game, can't remember which of the Habs or Bruins it was, a foward is in front of the goalie trying to block is view and a D-man is watching him, there's a shot and the D-man push the guy and he falls on the goalie, results, a penalty for the foward. Ok......

Re: Official 11-12 NHL Regular Season Thread
Ah archi....you mean like the one on Alex Burrows vs Tim Thomas? Hmm.....where Thomas clearly skates into Burrow,s who is basically standing still, and falls down?
Yes..I am sick of those...and then Lucic gets diddly squat for his idiocy.

Re: Official 11-12 NHL Regular Season Thread
I don't remember the Burrows/Thomas one, but it sounds from what you say the same sort of thing. Basically where there's incidental contact with a goaltender when the player makes a play to score on net - or where the goalie initiates contact.
We've all mentioned Bruins games, but it's happening in plenty of other games I've seen recently. However, this really suits Thomas in particular with his aggressive style. I suppose I shouldn't complain as it works in the Bruins' favour - but I'm a hockey fan first and foremost and want to see a fair game!!

And New Jersey overpays huge for Zidlicky. To New Jersey goes Marek Zidlicky, to Minnesota goes Kurtis Foster, Nick Palmieri, Stephane Veilleux, Washington's 2nd rounder in 2012, and a conditional pick in 2013.

What?!?
Holy cow what's going on with D-man this year, every trade so far are overpaid. At first I thought it was only Zidlicky for Foster, that one seemed more fair.

The Leafs REALLY need to stop having these ceremonies honoring past players/teams. It seems every time they do the current team comes out flat and plays poorly. First it was against Montreal on Mats Sundin night, and now last night when they were honoring the '62 cup winning team.

Re: Official 11-12 NHL Regular Season Thread
So Carter's out of Columbus and finally reunited with his bosom buddy at LA... good for him, I guess. Or not, considering where he's ended up. I wonder what the Blue Jackets are up to now...
Karlsson this year has been unreal. I watched the Capitals game a couple of days ago and his play really is impressive. I wouldn't give him the Norris yet, though. His defensive play is average, but it really is exciting to see such an explosive defenseman in the NHL again.

Re: Official 11-12 NHL Regular Season Thread
Best deal of the day (at least most interesting)
Hodgson and Sulzer for Kassian and Gragniani. Hodgson stuck behind Kesler and Sedin...and with Malhotra Lapierre and Pahlsson...he was not going to be playing C for the rest of the year, and not in top 6 as C for ever and a day. He is not strong enough on wing..one day he may be. Sulzer could not get in lineup even with injury to Ballard (who never plays). ZACK KASSIAN? This kid could be Milan Lucic. He is TOUGH as nails, big and strrong, not a bad skater, and has a good shot. He hits like a mack truck. Sound like anything the Canucks were missing last season?
It is risky giving up a player like Cody...he could be a star player, but it was not going to happen in Vancouver. Kassian is a good return for him...exactly what the CAnucks needed. Tough, RW, right shot, that can skate and maybe just maybe play in top 6. Definitely will play with Henrik and Daniel somewhere along the way when teh Nucks are facing a team that targets the twins (Chicago, Boston, Anaheim, Nashville)
Can't wait...Buffalo in VAncouver on Saturday night. Response to Cody will be VERY INTERESTING.
Worst deal of the day:
Oduya to Chicago for 2nd/3rd. Winterpeg thought a waiver wire pick up (Clitsome) is better than Oduya. ANd then they got a 2nd/3rd for Oduya. Awesome job.
Big winner of the day: Boston....Zanon is going to be awesome there as 5-6 guy. And Rolston will fit right in.
Rangers--John Scott? What the Dickens? Wow...that is one scrappy tough team. Guess they figure they are going to have to out nuke the Bruins.
Detroit--Still not very tough, see how they handle the Nashville, St Louis, Boston, NYR of the world.
Skill over nasty? Nasty over skill? This is going to be a VERY INTERESTING playoffs....could form the direction the league takes in the next few years. I love it.
Gaustad got a 1st? Wow.

I am a bit surprised the Rangers added Scott. Sure, another tough d-man is good to have around but there was a bigger need for someone able to play PP.

Re: Official 11-12 NHL Regular Season Thread
Rangers are listing Scott as a Forward on their site. He is playing 4th line.
I bet they have no intention of playing him on D, but who knows?
That team in NYR is scary good. They could knock off Boston. And beating up Boston? Yeah....sounds good to me.
Too bad Nucks don't play Boston again this year...would love to see Marchand get his head knocked off by Kassian. And it would happen.
