Anyway, as I said, I don't like coaching, in fact I hate it. But it seems like when I build my team and leave the practices and tactics to the coach (even amazing coaches) my team still plays a lot worse than they actually are and my players regress a lot each season. I always thought I was crazy but I decided to test it recently. I built a great Detroit team but they couldn't even make the playoffs for me. A kid I picked 199th overall went from 120 points in his rookie season after college to 65 points. I left the team for Florida and he went back to 100+ points (for the next 10 years, he also won 5 conn smyth trophies...) So I built up a decent team in Florida and they still couldn't make the playoffs. I left and they won the cup the next year while I was in St. Louis. St. Louis was different for me. I won the President Trophy, lost in round 2, as Florida won the cup and all my star players regressed a lot. It's not like they were 38. One was 27 years old and he went from a bunch of green attributes to a lot of yellow attributes to explain it as simple as possible. As I simmed through all this, I saved each year as a new file. So knowing that the Detroit team I built went on to 5 cups in 6 years, I took that team over the year of their first cup. Instead of leaving for Florida, I stuck in Detroit and my team missed the playoffs 2 more times before I gave up and the kid who went from 120 points to 60 ended up going up and down with 90 odd points to 45 points.
I'm just wondering what the hell I'm missing. Do I actually have to coach these teams myself because I have absolutely no interest in that. That's why there are coaches in the game, I let them do the coaching, I simply get them the talent. When I try to do this, the players go from 1st line superstars to 3rd line plugs for no apparent reason. Any help would be appreciated.
