So I've been GM of the Canucks for a few years now and my top prospect, Niklas Jensen, has spent the last two seasons in the AHL.
Anyways his contract expires this offseason and he is demanding $35,000,000 for one season!?!?
This guys got major upside, he has 211pts in his last two seasons combined. What the Dickens is this?
To me it means that he doesn't want to re-sign with you, and if he did then that's how much he would want. Just let him go and try and re-sign him July 1st.
If he is an RFA just let his contract expire. Usually once training camp opens, these guys lower their demands drastically. Happened to me with both John Tavares and Nino Neiderreiter. Guys just don't like seeing their teammates playing hockey while they sit on the sidelines.
Yeah for a RFA who isn't cooperating, just let them expire. You can lop millions off even what they previously made this way in many cases. Rostislav Olesz was wanting $8m/yr from me after making $3-something... so I let him expire and and lo and behold, he took $2m/yr instead. Kyle Quincey's making $3m and I got him for like $750k after he expired.
Thanks for the input guys, I'm still a little iffy about letting him expire. Because I had Erik Karlsson who was becoming a great prospect who didn't want to resign so I let his RFA contract expire and gave him an offer but he decided to sign somewhere else

Big hole on the Depth Chart for Defense....
You have to at least qualify them first though. I don't know that I've ever had a RFA signed away that I didn't just mean to let go.

Just throw them a qualifying offer and you retain their rights. I had Travis Hamonic making $550K asking me for 3.5 Mil raise. I qualifyed him, let him go and he ended up resigning for 2 years 575K.
I don't know if it's a bug. I think that some guys are coded with horribly low loyalty and because of that they value themselves above what we're willing to pay them.

Yeah I'm sure that's it LOL! Those pieces of code just hate watching from the sidelines.
Love watching fans of a game try to rationalize its bugs and flaws with real world logic. Happens all the time on the FM forum. IT'S 35 MILLION! FOR ONE SEASON!
THAT'S A BUG! SIDNEY CROSBY DOESN'T EVEN MAKE 1/3 OF THAT!

Once again boyledshark22, this game was released almost six years ago. There are no developer provided patches for it anymore. The guys on this web site spend countless hours of their time trying to make the game better. They update the rosters a few times a year and make the new prospects that come up through junior hockey, college, and Europe. We all know the games limitations and honestly don't need you to keep bashing it. You won't make very many friends on this board if you keep trolling like this.
