Hey guys, I'm currently managing the Toronto Maple Leafs and I'm currently in my fourth year as GM. I was off to a rough start during the first season as GM, the team came in 10th place. After that I made a couple of trades here and there during the off season and during the trade deadline and the team won three back to back President's Trophies.
But for some reason this team doesn't manage to score many goals in the Playoffs. This has been an issue for three straight years. At first I thought it was the goaltending, but that doesn't seem to be the case. The team for some reason allows more goals then they actually score. I was wondering if anyone knew what I could do to change that, maybe changing the tactics, lineup? I normally just do "best lines".
2007 - 2008 Playoffs: (Defeated in Second Round 4 - 3)
2008 - 2009 Playoffs: (Defeated in First Round 4 - 1)
2010 - 2011 Playoffs: (Defeated in Second Round 4 - 2)
You would think a President's Trophy winning team would have no problem scoring goals, but apparently it becomes an issue for this team in the playoffs, especially around the second round.
Lineup:
L1: A. Ladd - J. Tavares - P. Kessel [LD: D. Phaneuf - RD: S. Weber]
L2: M. Michalek - T. Connolly - D. Setogouchi [LD: C. Ehrhoff - RD: M. Zidlicky]
L3: D. Penner - D. Roy - A. Burrows [LD: A. Ference - RD: M. Bergeron]
L4: M. Brown - M. Malhotra - C. Adams
Starting Goalie: Antero Nittymaki
Backup Goalie: Tuuka Rask

Re: Trouble In Playoffs
The issue is playing the same team over and over again. In the regular season there are new opponents all the time.
This team, just doesn't look good enough to me.

The previous poster is right. You're playing the same team over and over. The opposition AI coaches learn your tactics and adjust to them. Try alternating tactic sets with different breakouts on a game to game basis to keep your opponents from knowing what you're going to do.

Try Switching up your lines and change your tactics, Everyone's game is different but Tavares, Kessel, and Roy, should all be pretty quick players,(Speed) Seto might be too, IDK about Ladd or Michalek.
Put Tavares With 2 quick players (IE Roy and Kessel {roy should be able to play C/LW})
Use individual Tactics, but set every line to 'Barrage' Shooting
Set line 1 up with Very Offensive, creative passing, and dump to less often(1 below normal)
Line 2 to 'Offensive' Passing leave at normal but again drop dump to less often
Line 3, set to normal, change only shooting to Barrage
Line 4, Defensive
Put your skilled players to carry the puck, and make sure your playmakers are on pass and shooters (Kessel) are on Shoot for their Bias or Tendency whatever its called.
You may want to split up Phanuef and Weber, the rest of your defense looks kind of eh, especially the pairing of Ehrhoff and Zidlicky, Balance them out, maybe you can cut down on your goals against. In my game Ehrhoff was sketchy on d, Zidlicky as well. I'd never use either of them on the 2nd pairing let alone together.
But as i said before every game is different, every database, ect
