It’s most definitely a “personal preference’ type thing.

I’ve seen posts from people who emphasize how they don’t care about using “real players” but I’m pretty much the opposite. For me it’s not about trying to create an all-star team, but rather playing within a recognizable hockey world (I like the less player movement & build from the draft style of play like the Challenges promote)

I think a significant factor is I’m an older guy (I’ve been following hockey since BEFORE Gretzky) who hasn’t followed hockey in the last decade like I did when I was younger…so I can combine my enjoyment of EHM/hockey with my enjoyment of “discovering” all the real life players of recent years.

Another big factor is my work on the 1974 database; I found having rosters that started in 2006 with “known players” was far more useful to me when addressing the HUGE learning curve regarding creating a historical database (more useful for testing/learning purposes in regards to my creating a historical database)

And I only discovered EHM 18 months ago, and I have not actually PLAYED much EHM (and thus haven’t grown “bored” with the real life players). I spend pretty much all of my “EHM time” editing.

Regards

The Manimal db has real players, they are just on the teams they play for now. And the juniors will have real players as well once all is said and done with the updates.
I may be misunderstanding what you mean by real players...older dudes? Like Hasek and Gary Roberts and the like? who are retired in Manimal db, as they are in life today?

The UUDB starts in 2006 with the IRL player ages, and thus gives me a broader age range of known players (18 year old Nugent-Hopkins is 13 in the UUDB 5.0).

As I mentioned, I haven't followed hockey as closely as I used to (and thus prefer a few drafts with more "known" players) AND my primary use has not been to play EHM, but to research things regarding the development of the 1974 db (and a database starting in 2006 is closer to what I'm working on than a database starting in 2011)

My personal preference has NOTHING to do with any percieved quality differences between the databases.

Look at your reserve list, it shows who counts and who doesn't

You also have to release thier rights, I had the same problem I released two players but apperently retained thier rights and they still counted towards the reserve list 'contracted' players. So I went back and released thier rights.

Yup. The same thing happened to me.

There's an issue with the upload tool. The fourth quarter ends at 80 games but obviously it should be 82 games. I can't upload my stats as it says I've input stats from 82 games and it only allows 80.

Sorry, that was my mistake in setting up the challenge. I've corrected it. Try again.

hey guys, new to the challenge should be fun. 1 question, in season 2 are we allowed to trade a drafted player from the previous draft or does he count as an "acquired player" and need to wait 1 year before trading him?

You've got to have him under contract for 1 year before you can trade him. You're not allowed to trade ANY unsigned players. If the player was already under contract when you started the game, then he's okay to trade once trading is allowed.

That's correct. That trade was totally not allowed under the rules. I've PMed the user who made the deal.

The rules are not something you download. Just click on Challenge Centre in the header and then the links to the rules on the left side

I made a minor mistake with regards to the challenge. I played the game up to July 1st 2008 (end of season 2) and forgot to write down the team stats. Is there any way to find out the power play and penalty kills stats for my team prior to the start of the 4th quarter? I can figure out my totals after that.

SO using the CSD I should start with 2011 as my year right? Manimal 5.0 would be 2012. Just to be sure.

Where do you see your conference rank in the WHL?
I only see division and overall standings. Do I have to calculate it on my own?
Why hasn't anyone else noticed this?

I've just put the division because there doesn't seem to be conferences in the WHL (at least from the game's perspective). When you go to the WHL standings, the default screen you see is your division. When we play in the NHL we see the conference. I just put the division since that's what it defaults to. I guess we should modify the rules to mention this and maybe change the prompts on the "Upload Challenge Stats" page?

I think it should be changed somewhere, yes.

Conference is only used for the WHL to decide who plays who in the play-offs, I think

There's not even an option to show the conference in the standings for WHL.

Because they do not matter in EHM as the playoff system is DIVISIONAL until there are two teams left. The EHM game never got the conference playoff system that is in the WHL now implemented in it.

Like the new rules. Wish I had time to play. Cool trade for old dude or trade away old dude ideas.

UFA rules are better too. The 5 mill in 2nd year is a good idea.
