Team is Falling Apart

I was wondering if anyone could help me out a bit. For some reason my team [Toronto Maple Leafs] went from a sixth President's Trophy title to an 10th seeded team in the Eastern Conference this season. The season isn't over and trade deadline is approaching.

I have no idea why the team is doing this terrible since the team is pretty much the same except I traded away a few depth players for players that are more tougher and better defensively. The only "big" trade I made during the off-season was dealing away Shea Weber (My top defensemen) along with my second round draft pick to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for Steven Stamkos, Victor Hedman (A young defensemen with a ton of potential), and a third round draft pick.

My plan for this season was to make the team younger as my key players were slowly aging and also to strengthen the team's defense because last season we were eliminated by the Carolina Hurricanes in six games and the main reason we lost was because my team couldn't shutdown the Hurricane's top six players defensively.

Team Stats: 20 - 21 - 1

Last 10: 4 - 6

Powerplay: 20.3%

Penality Kill: 89.6%

Can anyone help me out here? I'd really appreciate it.
