Fictious universes in EHM

Post by ernestog »

I have various proposals of fictional universes for Franchise Hockey Manager:

1: An animation-themed universe based in North America (see http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/board/f ... y-sim.html).

2: An universe with teams based in any rapid transit system at some city in any hockey-tradition country (e.g. New York Subway, Moscow & Saint Petersburg Metros, Montréal Métro, Berlin & Munich T-Bahnen), with promotion-n'-relegation systems (if possible).

How could I create this universes to use in EHM 2007? (I'm waiting the FHM release)

Perhaps using a blank database would be a good starting point: http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums/vi ... 115&t=9924

You may also want to check out the EHM Updater as this would allow you list all of your players and staff in a spreadsheet (and then the Updater can import the spreadsheet into the database): http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums/vi ... 60#p142560

I actually have been working on exactly this (and haven't given up on it either). I wanted to create a new DB from scratch. I have a notebook that I created a completely new league in, including teams, logos, colors, arenas, etc. I also then went about creating notable players (the whole point of my DB is that I wanted fake players someone playing the game would grow to like or hate, but care about, much like how if you ever played Blitz: The League on XBox that was a completely fake universe but you got to know the individual players and their reputations). I've put hours and hours into it already and barely even have the DB actually started in the pregame editor. I started using the blank DB.

That's the thing though: You need to have all your ducks in a row before you even touch the computer, and that's a tall order. This why I had a notebook full of lists, charts, and notes. Ideally you'd utilize the NHL for your fake league because otherwise some high rep players simply won't sign anywhere else, but I was giving it a go using the UHL I think to try and keep my workload down a bit (because with a blank DB there are simply so many players to create).

That's the thing about a truly fake universe DB though: it'd never get outdated, giving it more replay ability for most users. That's why I want to see one exist.

The game does have a fake names option when you start. And very very quickly you become unsure of who is who. Example...Canucks did not have a super Canadian goalie, nor did they have 2 Swedish forwards who were stars and brothers. Nevermind brothers...no star Swedes. It changed alot of things with the fake name option. I have a career going into the 2020s and I cannot tell anything about who is who..

So league structure and team names are changing in yours and that is cool....I love the fake name db game i have going, even though the team names are all the same. Started it along time ago though...Atlanta Thrashers are still in the game.

I'd love to do a fictional database from scratch. Sadly, I know I'd never finish - I tend to start things with plenty of excitement, and then get bored and move on after about a week

I didn't know the Fake Names changed nationalities and the like as well. I thought it was just a Name Masker...

IIRC, it masks names and randomises rosters. But I might be wrong.

With regards to compiling fake rosters, keep in mind that you could compile a spreadsheet of all your fictional players (with all of their contract data and attributes) and then import this straight into the DB using the Updater. There's no need to create the players individually in the Pre Game Editor. :-)

Actually this gets me thinking again on an idea I had a while back: removing every male player and staff from the game and adding all the female players/staff I can find... it would take forever and a day I'm sure, keeping motivation would be *hard*, and then I'd have to figure out how to change all the pronouns (he/his/him) in the game (I know that kinda does drive me bonkers, that the game just automatically assumes that the player is male, and it looks kinda weird to see my very female name together with male pronouns in in-game news :P )
